well put gravteck, thats why they have workfare, which is really a good idea, but they you run into these sorts of problems, here's an example, GM, just the easiest. As you know if you've seen ROger and Me, Gm looooooves to downsize, they fire a shit load of employees, close some plants, move em to mexico where the work is CHEAP. so, here we have it, a company like gm hears about workfare, closes the plant paying 14.50 an hour, and opens one for workfare workers, and they only have to pay 8.50 an hour, that sames them a shit load of money, plus, then they're on the governments good side, so they can get CORPORATE welfare= never have to worry, if they are ever in trouble with their cash, they can just make a little plea to there low friends in high places, and get a nice loan, of course, this is wrong, and sick, that you would give a shit load of money to the already multi billion dollar company, but not to worry, its all ok, because when bush hands money to a corporation, he is really thinking of the shareholders at heart, for the good of the nation... but who are these shareholders? lemme tell ya, not the single moms working at the plants, or the people that were just downsized from working at the previous plant who just got evicted from there house because they were already below the poverty line, and daddy just got downsized, so they cant pay there rent, and theres no welfare, because its all workfare, and even if he went to workfare, he still cant pay the 1 bedroom apartment rent, and buy food for the 2 kids he has living in it.. the people buying the shares are alreayd comfortable with there money, they dont need to worry, so a- i say we banish corporate welfare, b- if we downsize, the only places these companies go is to there mother company. and c- stick with welfare aswell, because if you can find a way to monitor it, it'll work... it will.

cowboy i wasnt referring to people being born homeless but rather people who are born into low income families where their parents dont give a shit about anything and the kids are not raised properly. to them a job is standin on the corner hustling crack because they dont know any better, thats all they know and it really isnt their fault. and believe me i know, i go to a school with tremendous finacial diversity. and its sad to see kids that are so poor they have to wear the same clothes to school every day of the year and have the same pair of shoes for three years, now you mean to tell me its easy for people like that to get a job? i dont think so, and even when they are in school all they do is cause trouble rather then try to get an education and make something of themselves. again this isnt their fault though, your only as good as your parents raise you and you only think logically for yourself when you have been exposed to logical situations. these kids were not raised logically, most of their parents do not even love them and see them as a burden, and are the future homeless or drug dealers of brookhaven for all the reasons named above.

Well the issue with workfare really isn't as relevant in the states as it would have used to be. A lot of problems in the inner-city are due to the migration of factory jobs out of the city and moving to overseas. And the rest of the business shifted from a manufacturing based economy to a service based economy migrating with the rest of the middle class to the suburbs. People in the inner-city have already been disenfranchised by corporations finding cheaper labor. The government is the one who has to set up public works, and don't expect a company like GM to initiate a program. In the end no matter how much you try to keep American blue collar workers under industrial terms, if they feel the need to, they're going to unionize. I don't think workfare can work in the states because a lot of studies have shown that government and public works jobs don't produce the same results as privatized ones w/ regards to efficiency.

And if you're a white collar American. Don't feel so safe. White collar jobs are already being outsourced to overseas. Engineering jobs where India graduates a ridiculous amount a year and even former Soviet countries where smart people are willing to work for less.

I think that you should be able to choose whether or not you want to go on death row. In the United States of America there is free enterprise, and everyone - regardless of age, sex, and nationality is given an equal opportunity to exceed in life.

The homeless have many opportunities to make something for themselves and escape poverty.

Mind you, it is not easy, but there are organizations and homeless centers that are there to nourish them.

The majority of the world lives in a third world country where they truly struggle to survive. There is no one around to provide for them; if they can not develop the means to attain food, they will die. This is a reality.

The homeless in USA are by far better off than the majority of civilations in cultures around the globe.

While employers will work with employees suffering from physical dissabilities, who is to care for those with mental dissabilities?

I just believe people are being taught to rely on others way to much these days. People are far to good at passing the blame and are to quick to expect others to pay for their mistakes and fix their problems. And to everyone who bitched at me about employers not wanting to hire people who are poor: We have things called discrimination laws and if some truly believes they are not hired due to their social status they can simply report it and i garuntee our useless legal system will get them a job pronto.

Well... to speculate what would have happened if the United States didn't enter WWII. And the issue of dropping the bombs is A LOT more complicated than the U.S. retaliating with bigger stones than anyone else. To keep it short, since this is not about WWII. The Japanese mindset is totally different than ours. Just try to think about what it takes to be a kamikaze, and fight to the last man. Also, if we were going to make a regular assault. We needed Russian support, and that meant making concessions to them at the end of the war, and at this point we had developed the bomb, and the precursors to the Cold War had already occurred. And remember... even after we dropped the first bomb, the Japanese didn't surrender.

This is kind of a grey area with Bush. I agree he isn't brilliant, or even bright at some times. But I wonder if it has to do with his vernacular. Keep in mind, until television became a popular medium for communication, the presence one had about oneself didn't factor into people's opinion about one's figure as much. If you could find the means, I suggest watching a tape of Calvin Coolidge as a speaker (SNOOOOR). You want a charismatic leader. But you don't want a leader who can hide behind their brilliant rhetoric.

MLKJr is one of my heros and he made so many breakthroughs. I went to camp last year with my class and we did an underground railroad simulation, where we were all slaves. It was only experiencing like 1/1000th of what real slaves experienced but it was the scariest thing I have ever done. I have nothing but respect for people like Martin Luther

So I was just watching the news and I saw that the US Marines are in Africa, helping in a civil war that has killed millions in months. personally, I think we should've been in Africa helping the Liberians instead of in Iraq. the africans were practically begging for our help; they have little food and water over there plus the war. I also support having our troops in Africa because it's more or less our humaritarian side helping them rather than the impowering side (like we want to help them, not take over the country, like in Iraq)

Ok so i've been thinking about it... Assuming bush really did win the election, got the most votes out of the people who voted, pretend he did, do you really think he won the election? no. If he wasnt seniors son, would he have won? no. If he didnt have his brother give him florida would he of won? no. If he didnt have daddies collueges working for him, would he of won? no. Think about it, is rummsfield, and powell really W's freinds? i'd tend to think they were with senior, and saw a chance to get in again, with his son. here is how bush DID NOT win the election. a- Florida was given to him by his brother, not only had a bush already taken the place, but also, they held back over 150 thousand voters, most of which were not of the white race, these citizens would have voted for gore if given the chance. 2nd, of course, what has bush done for himself, EVER. Daddy gives him a baseball team, oil rigs, he gets in at texas, what's he have to do there, other than sit, and watch summore baseball games, nope. Then you look at it this way, if bush senior was never prez, do you think a- W would have gotten half the things he did, b- do you think he would've gotten half the votes he did, do you think he ever would have made anything out of himself? Then you look at his history, a- the president is supposed to represent the people, when was he won of us? do you think that the average american grew up with daddy as a president? no.. they grew up in a mid class, or low class house, parents working long ours for a low income job, and got jobs as soon as they could, did bush? nope, daddy gave him a baseball team, what'd he have to do? sit in his skybox and watch baseball, i donno bout the rest of you, but if i could get paid for that, ID DO IT! Then he got into the oil business, thanks to daddy again, no worries though, not like hes gonna get oil on him or anything, hes not actually WORKING with oil.. just making sure the lower class do the work... so where in bush's history was he an average american, where did he work a hard day in his life. I would love to see him work 2 jobs to support his family. Now, other history, can we prove hes not an ex con? nope, young offenders act my friend, he says he has not been convicted of a felony in the past 25 years, strikes me as odd that he only said 25 years, he could've said EVER, but no.. just 25 years, hiding something? that'd be my guess. He was also arrested for drunk driving (he tells a different story as the cops) He says he was still young (he was in his 30's) and it was his own personal business, not ours, or relevant to the election. Well, i think that michael moore puts it best when he explains, the minute you get on that road behind the 2 ton suv daddy bought you while your under the influence, its not personal, its all of our business, your putting my life, my families lives, my friends lives, everyone else on the roads life at danger, explain to me why that is personal and you dont need to talk about it... so we've taken a waltz through history, knowin all of this, can you really say you would vote for bush, or that he deserves this whether he got the votes or not (and if he did, prove it) Do you think that the president should have drunk driving charges, should've grown up with everything handed to him, and possibly have DRUG FELONY's? i dont think so.. but suit yourselves.
