so ive been wondering like if you are a truly devoted skier approximately how many years does it take to get good like 10s and 9s and corks and flats and spins to rails and stuff like that.

i dont know what corks and flats are. All i know after skiing for my whole life is that 9s and 10s are gay, and you dont want to do them anyway

long time, realy depends on how fast you progress

i LEARNED to ski last year, and by mid season this year i was doing corked 7's, so ya it depends how much you progress

its all mental. once your comfortable with skiing, spinning, and rails, its easy. maybe like 2 years ofr the average person if they were really devoted. but dont push it cuz if ur not a stable skier, ull look all penciled out and out of control.

bullshit, i have a friend who learned corksevens and nines mid of second season....he sucks at big mountain but that wasnt the topic of the thread...

that is the biggest bullshit ive ever heard.

by learning you mean that you had NEVER skied before this year, and 3 months after that you could do cork sevens??

bullshit.

i think it took turpin more than one year

i read somewhere that he started like 4 years ago im pretty sure, but because he skied mammoth it definitely helped for him to progress super fast

plus he said he has always been comfortable being in the air, jumping off houses and shit into pools

crazy stuff

I've been skiing for 18 years. There are people who can rip in the park who have been skiing for 2 years. I think park skiing progresses a lot faster than big mountain or just all around freeriding. I honestly believe that knowing how to rip outside the park FIRST really helps.

There's no answer to your question. Some learn new tricks really fast. For others, like me, it takes awhile to progress in regards to tricks and such in the park. It took me a long time to get a good air awareness but now that I've got a solid base I'm learning a lot faster and becoming more confident with jumps and rails. I learned more this season than I have in the past 4 years combined.

Hope this was applicable in some way...

^ Yeah, just adding to that, Learning to acctually ski all terrain first really helps. It really depends how balsy and how willing you are to learn. If you have brass balls and really want it, You can learn a shitload of stuff just in one weekend. If you like to take your time, then it will take a lot longer.

well thats pretty tough because my hand is a lot sexier than many females-NewSkool450

yeah don't plan on doing cork 9s your second year, or probably your 3rd year either, I've been skiing 9 and I can't do them, I can shred big mountain but I hit alot of booters and like to think that I have a serious lack of brains when it comes to trying new things

impossible is really just a lack of determination

the question is if anyone who skis will throw cork 9s and switch 10s at some point in tha future.

Ok, i'm not the best, but my tip is to get yourself a solid base. If others throw 7s, dont try them until you can do clean 3s, 5s and switch 5s or so. There are some guys on my mountain which make better tricks than i do, but they cant get a 180 over a 40 ft table. Same with 360 safetys. It seems that they just cant get a grab to their spins. Although they spin 720 and stuff and i only 3s and 5s.

Its not bad if a group of friend pushes you to throw better tricks, but i saw alot of people, who ruined theirselves because they "had to" do tricks which they werent able to do.

And i guess that it takes at least 3 or 4 years to get cork 9s. I have already one year completed...

i have been skiing for a month...i can already do some small stuff but i like doing rails...ive already got a 53'rollercaoster box, almost a 60ft vegas box, 30ft flat down box....a 30ft box, a 12ft rail

its not really about how long its all about how much time you put into it each season

^thats good but still only boxes, u could throw any kid on a box and have him slide it

i see all these ppl come on sayin that they're throwing big shit when they've only been skiing for a year or two. i believe it but i definitely don't think that it makes them solid skiers.

i'm all for a solid base of pure freeriding before venturing into the park. i started park a couple of years ago cause i thought i was a good skier (basically, i could rip everything in ontario, which isn't saying much). since then, i've done a couple trips out west (whistler/panorama) and a bunch of trips into vermont and quebec. i realized that i wasn't able to rip everything like i could back in ontario. since then, i've totally switched my style of riding towards the freeriding side of things. i still do lotsa rails but i've eased up on the jumps so that i can concentrate on other stuff.

what i'm trying to get at is that people should be able to rip it everywhere on the mountain before they start pulling laps in the park. i've seen guys that spend all their time in the park pulling some sick shit but when they come out of the park, they seem lost. skiing park all the time is fun, no doubt about it, but being able to totally rip even the hardest lines are much more important and will make you a better skier, even in the park.

just my quick thoughts

I've been park skiing for the past two years and maybe it was just me, but you'll definately see a huge difference in your second year. Getting out is 90% of it, then just working and progressing will come naturally.

I went from being able to do 1's and boxes last year (my first year on twip tips) to 1's and 3's all 4 ways, sw on/off rails, plus I almost had my 270s on down. It definately helps to ski with better people too. The peer pressure element will push you to try things you might not have done otherwise.

I can't speak for the cork 9's and 10's but I know that if you get your ass out on the hill you will land anything you put your mind to. I'm planning on getting up to 7's all 4 ways next year but as long as you're having fun, don't constrain yourself to doing certain tricks just because you see pros do them.

it depends on how much your focused on progressing...you need to work hard in order to be able to do good stuff...it doesn't just hit you someday.

i've been skiing since 6. but i am really dedicated to it. i could be better. a lot. but i'm such a pussy

when these kids say they can throw cork 7's a few months of skiing what they really mean is they built a jump in their backyard threw a 10 foot cork7 landed on their ass and now their clamiing it

We pay our debt sometimes.

a kid i know have been skiing for under an year. his doing 1260, switch 1080, 270 on and 450 out of rails. and cork 900! his 12 years old now. and now your all thinkin like

"But its all porbably with absolutely NO style at all"

But thats wrong. his doing it all with style.

i've only been skiing park since like december and i wasnt even skiing it much then. I really started to try hard in like late january and i can do 3s with a bunch of grabs, 5s, 270 onto boxes, 270 out of rails, switch on, switch up on a podium box, kink rail, 30 ft flatbars, s-rail, and i did a couple 7s off a jump i built which was like a 30 ft step down.

I started skiing in 2003 and went twice. 2004 bought a pair of mad trix for dirt cheap and started in the park prob hit Blue about 60 times last year and learned how to do switch 3 and D-spins ( i think that is what it is called ..... switch with no spin). This year pipe and trying to get cork my spins but the friggin ice hurts alot and the spring is going to come and go in a heart beat Basically if you can get on the mountain as much as possible and have the guts to try diffrent things its pretty easy to progress.... question is how fast you want to progress.

Life is tough. Get over it!!!

^no those are zero spins

i'd say the best way, by far, to progress is just to go often and just make an effort to learn new things every day.. you wont learn if you go like once a month..

VT

This is my 4th season, I spent the first season riding a small amount of park but mostly powder and booters. I can do reg. 1-7 with grabs, cork 3-7, switch 1-7, switch cork 3-7, and d-spins, underflips, and flatspins with grabs. I pretty much started with 180s and switch 180s and worked my way up from there without skipping anything so i'd have a solid base, plus I just try everything off our biggest jumps and that really helps because you have way more time to grab and do things smooth.

I dont know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

how consistent are you than? Can you do cork sevens all the time or have you jsut done one on accident and than say you can do cork sevens?

the key to getting better is just going as much as you possibly can. Im 18, have been skiing since i was 2, only riding park for about 2 seasons and can still only throw 3's and do easy boxes. Then again, in those 2 years ive only been on the hill abour 20 days, so i think thats what matters the most, how often you're on the hill.

I ski Killington

College passes are awesome

i switched from snowboarding last year and now i can do cab 3s, 270 on 270 off and slide almost any rail. but i havent progressed that much on jumps

there's lots of guys who is real proud of doing switch 5's, cork 5's and all that shit. but one thing that you can't do berfore you can call your self real good skier, is to do it of huge jumps and shit. thats when you can do the tricks, when you throw them of huge jumps with lots of style

This has been my first full year of skiing park with twins and already learned to throw 5's, flatground 3's, solid 3 grabs, 180's, all kinds of rails, zero spins and such. If you want to compete and don't have technical tricks just go bigger than the other kids and be creative. It worked for me on my first comp.
