Expensive phones, why?

Why? Why do you need such an expensive phone? I really do not understand the point. My phone is three years old, smaller than just about any new phone i have seen, and suprise suprise, can call people and text people. I think it might have cost $30 or something with the plan it came with. Great, the phones can play music. Okay, it's shitty quality, holds under 1,000 songs, and chances are if you have such an expensive phone you already have an ipod. They all do the same thing! Unless you are a business man and you need a palm pilot phone, why the fuck do you need to get a new sweet phone every 6 months? It is such a waste of money. Are people so insecure that they need their PHONES to be top of the line to be cool? Okay that was kind of a shitty rant i'll admit, but whatever

I agree, 100%. I've had my phone for 2 years now and it doesn't have picture taking abilities, video recording, and all that other jazz. It's just a small flip phone that gets the job done. And what's the deal with kids these days getting phones in like 5th grade?! Is there really a need to call and text all your friends when you're 11? My parents wouldn't get my a phone until my 16th birthday... And to tell the truth, I really didn't need a phone until then. I would use the home phone to make calls, and they were responsible parents and knew when I needed to get picked up from after school activities and other things.

skifree.... your a loser, im sorry. Annnd just to add to this thread...

You dont have to buy an expensive phone for an expensive price, your stupid, its called Ebay. ( but your not going to find a phone for under $150 either i get your point, im just saying you can spend 150-250 instead of 500-600)and the quality of music on phones is accually really good, you plug headphones into them you dumbass you dont just blare them out of the speakers of your phone, and expensive phones come with TONS of amazing features that are accually REALLY practical, such as internet, email, and tons of tools that can keep you extremly organized. Also with camera's and videos, not really that practical yes, i agree. But you stupid for saying this shit isnt worth buying. And buy the way, i have a 30 dollar phone that DOESNT have any of these features, im just like you. Dont be jealous and un-educated about things you dont have, I would get one except im 17 and i have to buy all my own shit so it isnt worth buying over new skis, boots, ect. When im older ill def be getting one becasue it IS practical. ya' CUNT.

i use my phone features all the time.

everytime i see something that i used to wish i had a camera or a video camera to record cause its that priceless, now i can record or take a picture of anything! wherever or whenever. Plus it plays music, and yeah, i have an ipod...

but i still use it like an ipod every once in a while when i forget my ipod at home or the batterys dead.

basically i had a samsung flip phone that was nothing spectacular, and i dropped it and it literally broke in half, so i had to go get a new phone. I had never been the type with the new fancy phone so i decided to go for it. I really like it though.

I bought the cheapest phone verizon had at the time I started my contract. It was like 50 dollars and it has a camera. This june I get 100 dollars towards a new phone so I'll probably be getting a chocolate... for free. If not a chocolate I'll get an even sweeter phone at a discounted price.

ok, mr smartass...dont need to be so angry at the kid, he was just expressing an opinion. but as for me i 100% agree with him. its a PHONE, not a computer. internet, music, email; those are all unnessesary luxuries, and unusfully expensive. he did say that you may need them as a buisness man, but plain and simple nobody under the age of 20 or so would have any productive use for these features. thats what laptops are for, mobile internet and data storage, you dont need that on a phone.

and not all expensive phones come with all those useless features. there are expensive ones which come with only one or two useless features. like the razr for instance. my friend got a gold dolce and gabana razr free from a comp or something, and then he dropped it in a bowl of salsa (he thought it was a chip) and he bought a brand new one to replace it, $400!!! why would you ever do something like that??? thats my question. its spending absurd amounts of money on superfluous details and features that dont need to be part of a phone.

as for me i have a motorola that i got for free as part of my plan (free phone upgrade every 2 years). i got it a year ago, and it has a camera and can play music as its extra features. HOWEVER, i have used the camera ONCE since i got the phone, and it was for a physics lab a few months ago, and i have only tried out the music thing to see if it worked, but never used it, because i have an ipod, which has much better quality and storage space. i have those extra features, and i dont use them because i have a camera and an ipod, so they are useless.

case and point...expensive phones are the epitome of being materialistic and useless.

(sorry that was so long)

i agree totally. the black kids at my school have not 1 nice phone, but 2. one for texting, the other for calls. i find this to be totally dumb

the only added thing to the calls/texts is that i like the photo aspect, just cuz i like to document shit and remember stuff with the pics but all the rest is bullspit

the only expensive phone i would ever want is the sidekick, just cuz it has tight internet access and aim and such, which is nice for being bored in class. i see a bunch of black kids at my school with them and i get sorta jealous.

so you are saying that people who have one item instead of three(phone as opposed to ipod, camera and computer/data storage) are materialistic? how much did your camera/ipod/computer(or sandisk whatever) cost? a lot more than a phone.

my phone is such a peice of shit, i always break my phones or lose them anyways.....a few summers ago i dropped two phones in the lake

haha I don't even own a cell phone! I agree, the mp3/camera/tv phones are pretty stupid.

I wonder if iPhones will catch on.

as for you.... you didnt read what he said, what he said was Expensive phones are pointless.... he didnt state ANYthing about how old someone has to be...... if he would have than i might not have cared but he was the dumbass that said simply expensive phones are pointless, and their not in certain situations i was just making sure he realized this.

if a person has the money and desire to buy a sick phone, who are you to say they cant? its just like ski equipment. sure anyone can use $130 boots and begginner skis, but if they ahve the money for nicer shit, why not get it?

HAHAHA.. galli, i love how you just commented like 5 times in a row.

anywho. "expensive phones" are pretty cool. If my dad wouldnt have us on a 2 yr contract with all of our phones, I'd probably get new phones alot too. It's not the price that matters because theres alot of people that spend alot of money on stuff all the time. Clothes, ski stuff, etc..it all depends on where your priorities are. If someone wants to have a new phone with all the newest features, let them. You could say the exact same thing about designer clothes/accessories/cars. "Why would someone want a BMW...it drives just like any other car!! Sure it has special sensors and cameras and push start buttons.. But why would you want all that when you could have random crappy car that driveS as well." People want stuff because it has cool features. It's called technology. And that is what our world is turning into. If you dont want a phone with all the sweet features, You dont haev to get one. The market is just producing things to suit people's needs. They figure that if they can try to put as much stuff as we use daily (ipod, gps system, internet, camera, calandar) into one single phone that costs a few more dollars, why not!

its called showing off. why buy polos for 72 dollars when you can get the exact same one for 15.00 without the little alligator?

lol. It shows people you have money, even if you dont. why do people need to have a big house when you can have a smaller one with all the same stuff. It's just how we work!!

Nah, I don't even have a phone. But if i end up getting one I want one that will make calls and not break not if but when I drop it.

Not some sissy phone where I'm always worried about scratching the bug facny screen or some shit

"Unless you are a business man and you need a palm pilot phone, why the

fuck do you need to get a new sweet phone every 6 months?"

he never said that did he?

i got an LG phone about a year and a half ago and in july and when i started this year i my phone was ok and now i see like every other person has a new phone it makes me want to get one...and now after a half year of college my phone went from being ok to shitty it randomly turns off on me and everytime i call it says low battery plus everytime i take a picutrure the phone wants to shut off...so basically when i get my new phone im gonna try to get a really good one for the reason that i am going to have it for a really long time and i want it to work all the way through...thats my rant i guess

i really don't think a more ecpensive phone will last longer. You're just paying for bells and whistles. It might be smaller or trendier or whatever, but probably not more durable.

everytime i get a good phone like a slvr or something i fucking either bring it into the hottub in my trunks pockets or fucking lose it i hate it but its still hella cool like my friends phone can play music on his car so if he forgets his ipod he can just use his phone the camera also comes in handy quit a bit

^ture i have dropped that LG soo many times and it still works but also i wanna pay soemthign good hopefully in this case you get what you pay for but we all know thats sometimes not the case

Um status, thats really the only reason, why buy fast expencive cars when you can get a cheap one that runs? because you wont get noticed driving some run of the mill car

Because people want the new appealing features such as GPS, Navigation, Cable TV, News, Weather, Music, Media, Videos, Pictures, Internet, etc. in a hand held device that they can transport virtually anywhere with them. This is the difference between expensive phones and $30 peices of shit. Understand? Good.

hahaha yea... mos def. And yea guy who was rippin on me, i did say there are specific situations, i dont really know where you are comign from. If you run a business adn need to be checking email/internet all the time, then its cool. And I'm a loser for not wanting to get a new phone? Are you kidding me? Sorry I don't blow my cash on a phone that does the same basic thing, i have a laptop, and i really dont need to check my email or the internet every 5 seconds. I got my phone with my plan when i got my license, junior year of hs. I wouldn't have gotten it but my parents bought it for me becasue they thought i might need it when im driving. I still haven't replaced it. It works fine. It was either free or very cheap, i dont even know. I have papers to write and finals to study for, so i cant really argue very much right now, but i dont see how im a loser if i dont spend hundreds of dollars on phones that have no use to me.

The fancy features may have no use to you, but thats why you haven't upgraded. People who have upgraded are those who wanted to be able to listen to music, take pictures/video, use gps, and do other cool things with their phones. If you don't want such features you don't buy the phone.

However, many of the features are very practical and convenient. For example, many nice phones take good enough digital pictures that it is no longer necessary to carry around an actual camera when casually photographing. In a few years when iphone's capacity is expanded past 8 gigabytes, stand alone mp3 players may no longer be necessary either. It's all part of the nifty trend towards a single ultimate multimedia device.

Man, camera phones have allowed me to get SO many funny pictures that I never would have had a camera for.

I just got my green mint chocolate from Verizon, I like it, and I use it's features and I'm too poor to buy an Ipod, and if you wait to get a new phone every 2 years, Verizon gives you $100 off (if you sign up again, which is cool) and my phone had an additional $50 rebate on it, so it was completely free. You just have to be smart about looking for a new fancy phone, but hey, it's all about priorities, if someone wants to spend their money on a really sweet phone, that's cool, someone else will be spending that money on clothes, or skis, or a mountain bike, or gear of some kind... so whatever.

phones suck. they get lost or break, and if you dont want to shell out a shit ton of cash for a new phone, its possible, but oh you have to extend the contract! fucking cell phone companies.

one of my phones died skiing, another fell into a lake never to be seen again, lost one at gatwick (not sure how to this very day), so i just use a 5 year old motorola. it gets the job done, and has better reception than any other phone ive had.

the fact that you posted that makes it clear you have never driven a BMW. bmw suv's dont count. please dont assume so much in the future, it makes you look silly.
