Exotic locales in ski/snowboard vids?

question, does anyone really care if ski films feature exotic locales. I mean if the snow is deep and the terrain is sick who really cares where its filmed? I bring this up after watching art of flight a bunch of times. ya, they went to patagonia, and I understand the whole adventure story, main stream audience thing they were going for. But seriously they should have just cut that whole segment and put in more alaska. I personally dont give two shits where a segment is filmed as long as the footage is good. opinions?

I don't know why, but as I get older, I tend to be more and more nonplussed by ski movies. I find myself getting a bit bored in general. Maybe my desire is fading.... that would be sad.

As for AofF tho, I thought it was amazing. The cinematography and locales were jaw-dropping. Therefore, I would say I am on the opposite side of the fence to you. I find that endless pow shots, or line rippings gets a little tedious. The injection of a genuine sense of danger, plus the characters you meet (the latin pilot who won't travel to Darwin Island because "The Devil lives there...") really add to the spectacle for me.

Hopefully this seasons movies will continue to blow me away, and I'm not losing my desire to shred - but I would say; mix up the films. Show us the travelling, show us some characters - the people you meet. For me, its all about trying to get as close to the entire experience as possible. Living vicariously through the athletes, if you will.

^This, thats one of the reasons why Eye Trip ended off so well with the Sun Valley segment. It gave a bit of story and built suspense.

I agree with you and i loved the people it showed and the emotion givenn off. my favorite scene was the avalanche scene it just showed me how some days could end up and overall the movie was fantastic

I like to see the exotic locales, but as long as the snow/conditions/terrain are on par with the other segments. I understand that companies throw tons of money to ski in these places, so if they went there, its gonna be in the movie. I cant even comprehend how many scenes from Warren Miller movies that spend a half an hour showing absolutely shitty ice skiing in "exotic" locations, which is cool, but im paying money to see a ski movie, not a national geographic special on Antarctica. The WM movies in the past few years have been much better because they focus on the skiing quality, and not the locations as much.

As for other movie companies, the shitty skiing in exotic locations doesnt seem to be as much of a problem, probably because of budgeting reasons.

In the end, exotic locales are great, as long as its not on ice or corn, or on lame terrain.

I think it would be insanely boring to watch the same places be filmed every year. I really enjoy seeing new/different destinations in ski/snowboard movies.

I agree, Like in Refresh how they just go to europe just to ski hand rails? doesnt make sense to me.
