Evo observations of MSP premier in Seattle

Sorry this is a little late, but still worthy...if you were there did you have fun???

MSP lightin’ it up with “Push” in Seattle.

MSP has outdone themselves yet again with the latest add to their repertoire, “Push”. I don’t know about you, but I have a love-hate relationship with this time of year. Some of the sickest video premiers roll into town from some of the most amazing production companies. It’s this time of year when every morning when you’re out the door you’re debating whether you should bust out your new jacket already or if its too early, all the while thinking to yourself, “Nah, it’ll get warm later this afternoon”… but you bring it anyway. It’s this time of year when temperatures drop and the first snowfall across the country teases us intermittently… then the next week it feels like the summer again. This time of year, all your friends and industry folk alike amass in one place to share the one undying passion for the VP. That’s the love.

On Friday, September 29, 2006, Seattle, Washington was lucky enough to experience an evening of emotional highs from what can easily be dubbed as one of the season’s most epic films. I hadn’t even seen the trailer, and all I was going off of was friends saying, “Oh dude, I know some guy in a different time zone who just got out and said it was siiiiick”. Yeah, thanks. Anyhow, Fremont Studios was gracious enough to open its doors and roll out the red carpet for an evening of what I was soon to find out to be a night of awesomeness. Pre-show, the mood was super chill, people slowly started to trickle in as the doors opened. I actually looked away for a bit, then turned the corner and all of a sudden, mobs! Lines ceased to mean anything and everyone was so stoked to get inside. How can you blame them? Ingrid Backstrom herself was present and accounted for signing autographs and kickin’ it with co-star Sammy Carlson. Eric Pollard? Don’t think that I wasn’t keeping my eyes open for the Line Team Shredder, but he was no where to be seen that night except for on the screen droppin’ it hot as usual.

I don’t need to sit here and tell you how rad the flick was. Okay, it was sick. Before you run out to buy it though, I’ll giver a go at ranting about the After Party. Following the movie, I was swept away with the masses as we took a short trek down the street to the nerve center of evo (www.evogear.com) a Seattle based retail and online lifestyle and apparel shop. So at this point, we’ve got a mob of stoked skiers, an open bar, Vancouver Hip Hop legends Sweatshop Union, and well, you guessed it, from there the night transitions to non-stop ski talk, break battles, pulling out all the stops , and 6 empty kegs… and that was only night 2 of a 3 night movie weekend for evo! Let the pictures do the talking!

As far as I know, there were two people from Newschoolers that attended this movie... Me and Kevin.

And to be honest, we didn't enjoy it. I certainly would NOT say that MSP "out did themselves"... this movie was in no way different from their last few, they get old. Granted, its still a ski movie, so it was enjoyable to some degree, but if I had to sit and watch their last 3 movies without knowing which one was which... I couldn't tell them apart.

They're movies are becoming WAY to commercial. This entire movie was one big Subaru commercial, and I'm not one to complain about Subarus, anybody who knows me will agree to that, but a B9 Tribeca is not exactly the most ganster car, not fitting to a "new school skier" whatever that title entails.

Unfortunately MSP has become TOO popular, and popular with the wrong crowd, and so they've gone down the tubes, and can't come back. This crowd was mostly a bunch of tools, who probably ski 3 days a year, who get way too pumped up about things on the screen that aren't that spectacular. Which is fine, I think thats great, it gets those people more interested in the sport, I think that's awesome, MSP is good for those people. But for core skiers that actually know the sport, it doesn't fit at all.

The movie seemed as though it was 20 minutes long, most of that was people narrating about shit, something MSP does WAY too much now "and then I came over this rock, so I jumped this, and did that, it was the biggest line I ever did".... SO CHEESY!!!!

Last MSP movie I will attend.

wow, see I though it might be somewhat like that, but I had no idea it had gotten so over the top like that. Sounds like the movie has even started to really incorporate the Warren Miller aspects that have ruined those films. Im glad i didnt see it and Im glad you said what needed to be said

i think the fact that sean and i (probably the least liked and least serious guys in the wa regionals) were the only ones from ns that went really says something. and even we didn't fit in with that crowd. the majority of the people there were 30 or older or 12 and under. sean may look 10 and i may look 32, but it was still weird being associated with those people.

shit i fragmented it up so it didnt make sense for about the first 10 times i read it. but now it makes plenty of sense

Ahhahaa, the Sean and Kevin threads have returned. YESSSS!!

And the B9 Tribeca is a shitty excuse for a car. Why is it that all asian car companies make the same fucking SUV, do they think we dont notice they all look EXACTLY THE SAME?
