Probably the best article I have ever read on newschoolers. As a marketing major I'm always really interested in reading news on which big name companies signed which new up and coming guy that you see an edit for on the homepage. I have no interest in getting a sponsor cas I'm not all that good, but skiing with other guys who have some talent I always hope they run into that one in a million chance where some top notch ski executive comes across an edit that he really likes and says "Wow, I want this kid to be represent our brand"
That being said, the funny thing about this article is that Lesh (who wrote a damn good article) wrote this in order to give all the young cats who are aspiring to be Tom Wallnuts or Dollo, the most realistic insight into how hard it really is to get sponsored, and that even though you can double cork theirs a 12 year old somewhere in PC who can triple. But that being said, the funny thing about this article is that after reading the whole thing I think this really just goes to show that you have to create your own brand or to get into the limelight. Look at the new up and coming crews that are putting out banger edits like the bunch, hood crew, and tabernak pak. At one point all these guys were putting out their first edits in which nobody knew about them, and through putting out better and better edits, and giving themselves an image and style that people wanted to see, just by themselves they gained a much larger following. Increased popularity equals increased marketability equals increased profitability equals companies will want you. Airgo, get a bunch of your buds together, grab a camera and just get steezy. Throw more bangers, get more views, give your crew a name and a direction, and hope for good things.
I don't really know anything about actual ski companies and sponsorships but I love the article and the idea of getting back to skiing with your own homies and makin your own name and brand for yourself.
