What makes the 176's better than the 186? I'm about 6'2" and 180 pounds so I'm hoping the extra ski won't be a huge burden for me.

He just short. Thats why he needs a 176. Im about the same size as you and mainly buy skis over 190, never had a problem size wise but im an aggressive skier. For 6'2" at 180 lbs 186 will be a good size for you. Especially with a 114 waist.
