Everyone on NS should read this

I think its especially a must for all those kids who say they want to go pro. See how badly you truly need to want it. Its good to show that its not just handed to these guys. The value of perseverance.

great article, but i don't get why it's "the american dream", i mean people from other countries have aspirations, work really hard and achieve stuff too... i don't get why america owns that concept
 
America was one of the first country's to break free of feudalistic society. Most places had a sort of caste system that did not allow for individual advancement. America gave people the opportunity to shoot for the highest goals that you could reach. Thats why its still called the American Dream.
 
and that american dream is going down the drain. unless of course you are in the top 5 percent of wealth. then go ahead and do what ever the fuck you want. but if your an immigrant you have to do some pretty amazing shit to get out of the bottom
 
I would argue that the american dream pretty much went to the shitter after the american industrial revolution... then came back after the trust busting presidents... and now its back in the shitter.
 
No. The American dream was best known during the immigration in the early 20th century and 1920's. Take The Great Gatsby, prime book of the American dream.
 
Good blog post by Colby. Lets not analyze every element of the "American Dream" and take this piece for what it is.
 
it's a great read, but the fact that he called out canadians first thing bummed me out, even if skithecanada proved it appropriate. even if you call it "the american dream", its something we can all understand. its universal, not something that's only for americans.
 
Stop debating the American Dream. The blog post was meant to be inspirational. I thought it was great.
