Everybodys thoughts on Salomon Bindings

I weight 195 and am 5-11... idk how tall you are but I dont have a problem with my 912tis... maybe Im just lucky, or maybe Im not as hardcore as everyone else, all I know is I dont pre-release and I do release when I fall hard... if I can save it they give me a chance, if Im for sure going down, they release when they need to... dins at 10 for toe and 9.5 heel... I set my own...

I just wanted to note as well... who sets their dins themselves? I know its not recommended but I had my skis pre-release with axial 120s din set by a tech guy... we do shit above and beyond what normal skiers do, Im just saying maybe some of your dins are set wrong if you pre-release... for those of you who break the plate, I dont know... I havent yet...

bindings, ill end this shit right now.

salomon:

salomon production bindings are meh. the 9 series have great interface and are light, but have a very direct release, thats in or out, no in between. the toes suck. the Z series is a good binding for lighter skiers or more recreational peeps. if you ride hard, they brake. the sal heel sucks nuts as far as durability. the plates blow out, brakes get caught(when you raise out of the heel slightly in switch landings, the brakes somewhat deploy and catch, to the kid who was asking. the all metal 916s (and a small number of all metal 914s) are awesome bindings.

look rossis:

the old pivot heel is a great binding. EXCELENT release feel, fairly durable, reliable. they have some slop in the interface from the pivot, and the toe wings. for most people its fine and unnotacable, specially on jib skis (dare i say it helps with forgivness?)but on agressive skis, it does slightly hinder performance.

the PX bindings are hunks of shit. anyone who argues can suck my balls. i suppose they work ok when mounted on a system where they are allowed to float, but on twins and other flat decks, the HUGE rear mounting pattern absolutely destroys the flex arc of the ski. plus they are track bindings (see salomon 912 problems). while they do eliminate the lil bit of slop of the pivots, and retain the elasticity, in my opinion, the rear mounting layout ruins the feel of the ski. plus, they are built like crap unless you get the TIs.

now, while not for everyone, the turntable heel look/rossi is the crem-de-la creme of bindings. for most people, the price, availability, and inconvience of this oldschool design makes them not worth it. however, if you have maxed out the preformance of recreational binders, these are it. there are also the FKS 12s which are a perfect "inbetween" for production and racestock bindings. there are a number of various toe setups, from the current FKS/look race, my least favorite, to the older, 3d release FKS/races (very good), the ZRS looks (less burly of current design), the TT7s, TT9s(my favorite), and TT10s. these bindings all have that prized look elastisicty and retention, as WELL as phenominal interface. there is absolutely no slop with one of these setups. they are all metal, and pretty much indestructable, at least structurally.

one of the best features of the turntable heel, is the under-foot mount. it allows the ski to flex directly after the bootsole, more natural turn arcs, easier ollies and butters.

Marker:

forget about them. they suck. they use a "frictionless system", which pretty much means your boot slips right out all the time. the interface isnt as tight as salomons or PXs, plus they weigh a ton.

fischer/tyrolia

good solid all metal binders with high dins. nothing super special, nothin that sticks out as being wrong.

for all of you people who think all binders are the same, FALSE. once you start to really understand your skis and how they work, and get to ski lots of stuff, you will be able to tell the HUGE differences in bindings, as they can drasticly effect the flex of a ski, and how agressive/safley it can be skied.

stay the hell away from s810s unless you weigh like 75 lbs.

i like my p12s more than michael jackson likes little boys, and that's saying something.

I don't know how many times I've pulled off skis with Salomon bindings just tweaking a grab or pre-released turning in heavy pow. Maybe I'll give Salomon another shot in a few years, but for now I'm sticking to Rossi.

Anything below 12 DIN aren't too cool. If you're smaller the s912/z12 is a good bet, but if you're bigger they're not good. The s914 and s916(especially) are sickkkkk.

P.S. old 877 drivers, s900, s997 driver, and equipe series are real sick too. Not a popular old binding here though.

Salomon binders are BAD ASS!

I'm 195lbs and have skied them for over six years now with out ANY problems like stated above.

I use the 914 on just about everything, have a set of 912ti on one ski, and 916labs on my JJ's & Pipe Cleaners.

Never any damage or breakage!!!!!

I have heard stories many times, but have never seen anything thing with my own eyes other than about 4 years ago I stripped the teeth that lock the bider in place on the heal piece.

I sell a lot of Salomon binders and never have any complaints, most of the guys at the local parks use them with no problems, and I used them for my demo skis, the SC 912ti and never had any problems with breakage, pre-releasing, toe wings falling off, ripping out, or anything mentioned in the previous threads.

Over all I have 15 sets of demos and 6 hard mount Salomon bindings. I would not switch to anything else right now!!!

I do have to say this though.. Salomon as a company SUCKS!!

The new free ride binding that Marker has coming out looks sweet, but have never been a fan. I had a lot of trouble with them pre-releasing back in the day.

The Look/Rossi turntable binding is the heat as well. Very well made! Great for the park.

Vist binding aren't that great.. Lots of play.

Tyrolia binders are good. Heavy but they keep you in with no problems.. Nothing special.

To sum it up old Look/Rossi & Salomon binders are great!

Salomon bindings suck, the forward pressure always comes loose and the brakes keep you from landing switch because they break and bend so easily...fuck salomon

I think the have the best functioning binding but I have had troubles with durability of the Ti bindings. I tore the heelpiece through the ti track three time. Finally, after replacing it twice I sent the bindings back to Salomon with the request that they send me new bindings with the steel tracks form the 914 which they did even though they don't actually make the 912 with that track. So I got a custom binding from Salomon. They are the best bindings and have survived ever attempt at destroying them. They are the best.

im 6'2" and 180 lbs. and all season ive been skiing on the salomon z12 ti's and they're super lightweight and strong, haven't had any problems with the toe piece loosening like the 912's used to, but the white plate underneath the toe ALWAYS stuck out to one side when it was supposed to be spring loaded and pop back in.

i'm going with a pair of 4frnt deadbolt's in a few days, which im thinking will be considerably better than the z12's

i've busted two heels on 912ti's, and i don't ski incredibly hard. but the second time i warrantied them they sent me a brand new pair. and yeah they prerelease sometimes. other than that i like the lightweight factor, especially for hiking. my next binding will probably be something a little beefier though, just for durability, because salomon isn't exactly quick with warranties.

I have a pair on my first gen ar5s and they worked well until they got ran over by a car during a tow-in gone wrong. I've actually hit jumps where one falls off as I take off, and the other one goes when I land. So I hit the ground running, Literally.

ive seen that happen with look's quite a bit.. whatever, i think in general EVERY company will have some amount of problems with bindings, specially the way in which we use them.

i really like my look px12 tis. They seem pretty indestructable but theyre retty heavy. I want some salomon bindings formy dumonts so i can like triple the warantee.

I can't stand salomon, the 912's i've had for the last 2 years have torn apart 4 times, and to add to my growing distaste for salomon, my new foils that i've been riding for a month snapped just back from the heelpiece today...

i think im gettin the 914 cuz im onlt 120 lbs

but the 914 > z12ti right?

i dont like looks cause they're kinda heavy

my friend has s810s and all last year they would eject on him all the time and just yesterday in a comp one ejected on an easy jump, he rode out of it like it was still on but that costed him his final run. rossis are bullitproof!

i love salomon....skis boots bindings all of it..well i weigh like almost 100 pounds so there good for me
