Everybody needs to stop skiing this year

This year is cursed. The number of season ending injuries ive seen or heard of each week is increasing exponentially, it's absolutely crazy. The snow everywhere is totally beat anyways. I say everybody should just hang up the skis for the season and save their bodies for next year. This is the immediate aftermath of covid. Everybody is so ambitious to get out there and wet their tongue that they push their limits and get hurt. Or just get bit by the global curse leftover from 2020. Let's just all go do yoga and eat bananas so we can get our bodies ready for next season!

we might not have a choice if this weather doesn’t change on the east coast. 10 day was looking springlike the other day and I’m too scared to even look now.

Yeah, newsflash Monkey, this shit is dangerous. You should take up bowling, or golf.

3mania, you claim “this shit is dangerous” yet your home resort is listed as Steamboat?

curious.

Hey man i already love bowling and golf. And the danger's exactly what's so addicting about skiing. But buddy there's something going on making a lot of people particularly unlucky in their injuries this year so you gotta watch your six or those snow snakes will bite ya

This year, I've logged over 10 insanely fun MTB rides since the middle of January (when the lowland snow went away). Only 2 days on my skis this season. 1 day of hiking rails which was really fun, and then a bluebird pow day. I'm satisfied until warm spring park laps. Honestly, MTB brings me more joy now. The difficulty of progressing, beating your own times on DH trails, etc... and not to mention, no crowds. I'm not punching my steering wheel while waiting for morons to learn how to drive in a resort parking lot, I'm not annoyed by long midweek lift lines (which used to not be a thing)...

I haven't 'stopped' skiing, but it's not my main source of adrenaline joy anymore, and that is okay.

shit 10 degrees here friday and snow is gone

I'm looking to buy an Epic and or Ikon pass for the rest of the season. If anyone knows anyone who got injured and can't ski the rest of the season let me know!

MFer's are dying left and right at Eldora, what's your point?

Two days in a row, a person died at Bachelor. One 60, and one 66. My days are numbered!

One slid on an icy run and hit his head, another hit a tree on the windy Northwest Getback.

Very sad indeed.

There's a storm forecast for this week. The survivors this season may have it good from here on out! I swear it's the old snow that's killing us.

My little brother just got out of the hospital after coming extremely close to broken back and my older brother over rotated a backflip and has been out for like 2 weeks now. I’m next…

should I cancel my bridger bowl trip?

Pre-releasing Mark Griffon enters me in a combat sword fight with K2poachers last weekend. My elbow did not win- paid out with ER stitches and a hematoma. Sucks to suck

For real. The lack of snow is bad both for fun and danger. Basically just been a year of mellow backcountry and waiting for mtb trails to dry

Yeah definitely haven’t gotten snow in 3 weeks, it’s like April rn. Not to mention bridger sucks anyways, cancel and don’t come fs.

Haha, one kid at my resort got a pole up his butt when he crashed, another went head first into a tree, and my ski broke mid run (line chronic) so I crashed, pulled a muscle, and bruised my ribs. This season kinda messed up.

its true, ive seen more season enders close to me this year than any other. i think its more than people are so eager to get out.

up in the great white north:

-we have labor shortages. resorts are not as well maintained as usual and they are spending resources on enforcing covid rules

-there has been a lack of snow and oddly warm days. like ive never seen freeze/thaw conditions in february in my life before.

-lots of of terrain remains closed, but there are still just as many or more people. it gets pretty tight at busy hills.

-parks are getting smaller with less or no intermediate features. its either 15' or 40' at mslm with no happy median

-training facilities like gyms have been closed and people are just not as strong

-we started the season late in ontario, only opening in like mid december

-since its been so depressing, everyone is trying so much harder to find that happyness

ive stuck to sledding because of the lack of snow, its been great. brap brap.

Got my cast off my wrist yesterday u can stop skiing bub, but I aint. Ill break it again then slap ur mama and kfed on your kitchen table scrub

Tbh the snowpack numbers don’t seem too bad for how it is, but it’s so deceptive. Warmer weather has created heavier snowfalls. Less snow per inch, but more water within. A lot of places here in Colorado look thin, but snowpack is a lil higher. Like wut, but this would be the case and the wind too.

Its not all about numbers. Saturday I watched two of my friends slide down a 3-400 foot chute with rock fields everywhere around. It was the most scared I've felt skiing, watching from the top thinking my friends are about to die in some shitty rock field.

It was not a good idea to be there. The chute and bowl below had the coverage needed, but the snow had gone through freeze thaw cycles and got icy and scrapy. I've seen it all over. Let's just say this summer is gonna be a spicy one

No kidding. Got back from a trip in Aspen and some east facing stuff like a few chutes at snowmass and temerity lift at highlands was sketch. Skied through a few icy spots. Some better areas with snow, but I’m not even risking it getting confidence at drops because one mishap and it’d be lights out for the season. Been taking it more chill because of the shit snow(doesn’t mean I don’t meander off still) I do, but not as much. Hopefully the cycles come back in March and we can end the season on a high note come May.

but fr is it alright? I'm going anyways to at least explore Montana, is the park alright?
