On a side note- I just watched agian this afternoon and noticed that the scene towards the end when he drives with gretchen, well I think he's at the same place where the movie starts with him sleeping in the road, which kind of ties things together and makes sense to me

Yeah I noticed Cunnigham's ass grabbing now.

Everything is clear to me now,everything,EXCEPT the deal with the engine being sent BACK to it's PROPER timeline. This I don't get. It stil falls into Donnie's house but the fact that Donnie dies,is that what makes the Tangent universe not to appear? 'cos I read that book,and it had a reference about a mayan indian being killed by an arrowhead,but no army in sight,and an medieval knight getting stabbed by his own sword that he hadn't even built yet.. So every hero dies i guess..

well, the event of the engine falling isn't necessarily related to his house that's just where it happens to fall. The tangent universe occurs because the engine 'appears' so the only way to make the tangent universe end before it 'self destructs' is to send it back and make the event occur again, when the airplane flys into the vortex thing that's the event. if you think about it like a string there's the main sting and then all of a sudden another one is tied to it, the only way to not disrupt the main string and create one singular string or universe is to loop it back around so that it's tied in the same spot that it began from, creating the event that caused the tangent string to begin in the first place is the only way to keep order.

Ok. first of all... The fat guy in the orange jump suit is a guy from the FAA. He is follwowing them for some reason.

Now, the first big revelation I've had on this movie in years, and what everyone is wondering about is how can donnie get the engine back to its proper timeline if the engine still falls right?

Well think about it. When it happened the first time, they didn't know where it came from right? because that plane hadn't flown over his house until the future! That engine fell from the future... It came from a plane that was flying over his house in 28 days, or whatever it is...

So he has to make sure that that plane has to fly over his house once again and the engine has to fall on him again, but this time he needs to die so everything can get back into the proper timeline.

i thought the scientific aspect of it was naively done to say the least.

I thought that the ending would have been much better if the impailed donnie darko started talking to frank, and how it was actually a cycle.

The movie i think was done as a form of art. Beautiful scenes in it, and i cant wait to see some more of his films.

I loved the Celar Door scene, as well as donnies first kiss with his gf. Every scene with farmer was significant, and another good scene was with his physics teacher.

Those liquid spears are actually hypothesized to exist.

Man, that movie is warping. I'm so engrossed in working it out, masterpiece. It was never so big here, but it's a killer movie. Good stuff. I'm beginning to piece things together.

Thats the point of Cellar Door, there is no point to it, and thats art. Its the most artistic scene in the movie. I mean, who could else could write that, and make it seem serious. If you want examples of it in other movies, than in 'barbarian invasions' there is quite a few, in fact maybe the whole movie is.

There's a HUGE point to it. Celler door is where he goes in order to kill Frank. If that doesnt happen and if Gretchyn doesnt die, then he wouldnt have been able to return the engine.

I made my friend watch it, and she watched it twice. And the other day she said she understood it, and i said that there was no way you could understand it in 2 viewings, and she said she did. So i asked what the 'theme' was then. And she said it was 'dont fuck with destiny'. Which i felt was totally wrong and way past the point. So i told her no. and now she hates me. Great fun.

Exactly, Donnie fucked it up. It's about God's path. Donnie somehow got outside of God's path and then created the tangeant universe, where all these bad things started happening. Eventually, the whole universe would have imploded, killing everyone in it. Donnie saved them by getting back on God's path. Thats why there's the whole thing with the shrink, talking about God and agnostics and atheists and all that. And why Grandma Death knew what was going on, because she had left God's path before too, hence the whole 'everybody dies alone' part.
 
i got a question on a part i was confused on. when he went tot he cellar door did he realize all that was going to happen? why did he go there? what was he looking for. i gotta watch it again....
