Ever get ripped off by the pharmacy?

they screwed me out of vicodin yesterday. It's not like I can really prove it, but considering the sketchy ass virginia mason clinic I went to, I wouldn't be surprised if the chick behind the counter just pockets a few out of every bottle.

I fell off my longboard hauling ass behind a truck and got some moderate road rash, well long story short it got infected and I got really sick, so I had to go in to see a doctor. After like 45 minutes of waiting, all the doctor does is take a pen a draw a line around the edges of the biggest wound on my arm and send me away with antibiotics and pain killers. 5 minutes tops.

For what a doctor actually does in a given work day, they are SO overpaid. Surgeons, I'll cut you a break (pun intended) because surgery is some gnarly shit. But diagnosing a sore throat, writing prescriptions.. its like did you really need to go to college for 12 years to learn common fucking sense? And your pharmacist is a pill popping addict that's jacking your customers. This has happened to me before, and I assumed it was my counting mistake, but this time I am 100 percent sure I am right. Once I am well they are going to get an earfull on the phone. fuckers.

doctors aren't overpaid. Sure your sore throat is probably just a cold and you need some dimetapp or whatever but they still need to be trained to recognize real diseases if they ever do occur.

i went to the emergency room the other night for a burn and all they told me to do (after about 45 min. waiting) is to take tylonol and benadrl 3 times a day. thats what my dad gave me but he underdosed so it wasnt working.

i know a girl who broke her leg in a track meet and the doctor was positive it was just a muscle tear and he said an x ray would be a waste of time. after 3 months of constant pain they finally took an xray and found out that it had been broken the whole time and it had fuzed together at a bad angle and they had to break it again with reconstructive surgery, and hopefully she wont limp for the rest of her life.

If you realized how much they pay for malpractice insurance, you wouldn't be claiming they are overpaid. My sister's friend is an OBGYN in Virginia and is making around 60 thousand bucks a year after insurance and she has to still pay off med school loans.

my dad is a doctor and let me assure you, medicine is the WORST field to get in to. if youre a plumber and you go to someones house to examine a pipe, you get paid the full amount for your expertise. if youre a doctor and you give someone an exam, you get 40% chopped off right away, then the majority is paid for by medicare or some other company.

you are an ignorant dumbass. I bet almost anyone on this site could tell you that you need antibiotics for an infected cut, that doesn't mean we are doctors. They aren't paid to waste time on little stuff like your roadrash, because there are more important things out there that require their time. he might be diagnosing someone after you to see if the lump they found is cancerous.

Damnit. I was just about to post nearly this exact thing.

Of all of the prescriptions I've had over the years (countless, especially for pain killers, trust me), I've never had an issue. Sounds like a shady employee.

Casey... if you only had any clue what in the fuck you are talking about. I seriously fucking hate when people talk shit on doctors. The Human body is not like a car. You don't just open up the hood or plug it into a machine to see what is wrong with it. There are so many things going on inside of your body at one time, thinking about it might make you shit a brick.

In the relative spectrum of things... your situation in fairly minor. You got a really bad scrape playing on your skateboard, and it got infected. Guess what... there is nothing else the doctor can do besides outline the infected area and mark it's progress and prescribe you with an antibiotic. What else did you want him to do, amputate your arm?

And he is not just simply prescribing you with "an antibiotic". There are HUNDREDS of different antibiotics out there. Each one has a purpose to treat differnt kinds of infections and different kinds of bacteria, and he also has to give you the correct dosage. On top of that, the physician also has to consider what other medications you're taking as well as the fact that if you are allergic to certain medications.

And you wanna know why doctors go to school for that long? It's so they can best treat you. Because we all know that if they fuck up, little ignorant bitches like you will be the first ones crying to your mommy and daddy to call the lawyer and make things all better.

Even the president of the United States is allowed to fuck up. ...Doctors are not.

Here in Pennsylvania, Malpractice costs are through the mother fucking roof. After medical school, there is no way in hell i'm staying here and practicing medicine in PA.

^^ Word to that.

But for my own post:

Honestly, I'm sick of hearing bitching about how long you had to wait in the E.R., or about how much doctors are overpaid, or how they didn't do something right. Seriously, I'm sure if you had to wait for however long, they had a legit reason, because your shit wasn't dire enough. Fucking look at the amount malpractice has increased in the last bunch of years. Its rediculous the rates they have to pay just because they made a fucking mistake, and people being sue happy. Doctors go to school for a legit amount of time, 8 years, just so they can diagnose something wrong when they see it. I'm sure one or two made a mistake in diagnosing "your friend" (probably some bullshit story your friends told you), and she got "fucked over for life". Dear god, quit the bitching and live with it. Fuuuuuckkk.

To the creator:

It was probably some sketchy employee, just go to a different pharmacy.

That nearly happened to my mate. She was dropped on her face during a piggyback race, and fractured her skull. The doctors gave her paracetamol and sent her home (which was to the hotel she worked in abroad). 3 days later her eye had swollen shut and her face was getting bigger and they still wouldn't do anything.

It was only when she got back to England they told her her face was broken.

This was 2 hours after it happened, before it started swelling. I wasn't cruel enough to take pics after.....

don't talk to me about ignorance, you weren't even there. so stop trying to categorize me as some bitchy little 15 year old crying about a scratch on their arm. its simply not the case, nor is this an isolated incident.

I think I have a right to be pissed off when I'm paying out the ass, myself. my own money that I worked for, expecting a legit exam, and they blow through it like I ordered a bigmac and fries.

I know it makes you feel better to try to pin me down as the "ignorant little bitch crying to mommy and daddy" and of course its not the health care system thats completely fucked, its my fault for bringing it up.

Then enlighten us on your situation. And how YOU feel it should be handled. And why you feel someone with an Undergraduate and Medical Degree, as well as a completed Residency, and perhaps a fellowship, is wrong.

I want to know everything he diagnosed you with. Versus what your self-diagnosis is. And what the hell you wanted him to do about it exactly. You keep crying that we don't know you're whole situation. Well then fucking tell us you're situation. What I got out of you so far was road rash to infected area.

It just absolutely blows my mind... how people like you feel that they need to tell a doctor how to do their job.

What ever happened at the Pharmacy.. i dont care about. You might have got shorted some pills. Call them back and check. Pain meds are actually counted 1 pill at a time in this country to prevent people from stealing them in Pharmacies.

You're straying from the point. Did I ever say that the doctor was wrong? No. The point is that I don't know if she was right or wrong, you don't know that either, and to be honest, neither can the doctor. Did I get a throat culture? No. Did they do any bloodwork? No. If I'm going to a trained professional, I'm not satisfied with, "It's probably this." If it isn't, then I'm not doing myself any favors by needlessly taking antibiotics. To be honest, I'm not sure what makes me more ill, the vicodin or your fucking ego. Just stop trying ride your high horse around like you know everything about everyone and just let me complain in peace.

never been fucked over on pills mostly cus they never really get me any, i broke my ankle last year and i went to the hospital and they said it was just a spraing so after walking on it painfuly with a cane for a week it started turning purple, then they take x rays and see that my ankle is mad fucked up cus the break was on a growth plate and ihad been putting pressure on it, needless to say i have to go get my ankle rebroken........ fucking gay

I'm just simply trying to correct the lack of respect you seem to have for the medical community. I see people like you every day in the hospital. There is a system. There are few doctors, and medical care is expensive. Thats why you have to wait. And sorry to sound like a dick... but I do know a lot more than you. And these people that you're seeing know more than me. Especially about you're specific case.

Listen to yourself. Why in the hell would they order a throat culture and bloodwork for a superficial infection that was the result of road rash.

#1... you definitely don't need the throat culture... and perhaps the blood test, but if the infection has already spread into the blood stream and throughout your body... you'd be in a hospital bed in fairly critical condition on heavy duty intavenous antibiotics.

#2 It's not always the doctor's fault what he can do and what he can't do. That little card you (you're supposed to) carry in your wallet, is your insurance card. The isurance company basically tells the doctor what he can and cannot do, and have them pay for it. If it isn't covered, it all comes out of your pocket. And if you don't have insuance... then he's really limited.

I just have no respect for anyone that has the nerve and the balls to say that Physicians are "SO overpaid". These people have dedicated their lives to gain the knowledge necessary to help people. I don't know how many other professions can testify to that. If you only had a clue what it's like for me trying to get into medical school. It is my life. I'm lucky if I get 20 days to ski a year. So yes I am going to ride my highhorse. And you can sit there and bitch in peace about nothing.

yes i do. you have "moderate roadrash"

I know all about the apparent situation.

Also pharmacies should always count out the proper number of pills subscribed. shady employee or mis-count

Also they aren't gonna do exstensive bloodwork just for you, that will be a waste of their fuckin time.

People complain that they had to wait FOREVER to see a doctor, had to sit in ER, or whatever, but expect the doctor to give them extra special service that is un-neccessary and a waste of time? It's when doctor's have to treat something serious or some dick holds them up complaining about their common cold that holds up the system. they don't make you wait just for fun

Physicians being overpaid is really a matter of opinion. It's whether you think that more money should be awarded to quantity of labor, or quantity of knowledge.

Perhaps Casey thinks that Firefighters should be paid more than doctors, because they put their lives on the line, and their work is far more laborious and straining. I don't think it would be far-fetched to put together a strong debate over the matter.

and you say "these people have dedicated their lives to gain the knowledge necessary to help people. I don't know how many other professions can testify to that"

I know more professions that can testify to that than i could count in one day. And, honestly, out of the professions i could count, the majority of them make very little, or are even volunteers.

I don't necessarily agree with casey, and think that doctors are overpaid. I think that's a little to generalized of a statement. I might agree with certain doctors, and not with others. I'm just simply saying, its an opinion, and one he shares with quite a few people i would imagine.

and yeah, there probably wouldnt be a reason to order a throat culture or blood work. because doctors are trained to recognize and diagnose extremely efficiently, because in the medical field time is money. It's unfortunate that doctors can't spend ample time with each patient. If they could, malpractice lawsuits probably wouldn't exist. But its the way things work, so i just deal with it.

I had interstitial cystitis for 6 years before it was diagnosed correctly, i had to continuously go back to the doctor. they'd hear an overview of my symptoms and once again send me home with kidney medication...one even gave me a pregnancy test...AFTER i told her i was a virgin ( i was 16). what a bitch.

or sometimes i randomly get feelings about things, and think that I'm ill, or think i have some sort of a disease. One time i convinced myself i had skin cancer. i dont know why, i just thought i did. so i went straight to the ER and asked them to test me for skin cancer. They pretty much said "go away"...

2 weeks later i made an appointment with my Dr. and asked her to test me. 3 days later i recieved a phone call that i tested positive for malignant melanoma.

I understand why the ER turned me away. but i also recognize how quick hospitals are to dismiss people.

twice i have been mis-diagnosed when i had a semi-serious injury

i tore my acl and when i went to the clinic they diagnosed it as a sprain, gave me crutches, told me to ice it, and sent me on my way (they also were more worried about the turf burn i had on my other knee because it could have gotten infected :/). i went to visit my family doctor a week later and he took a look and knew right away and suggested i get an mri (which i had to drive in buffalo for and pay for... im canadian)

i messed my shoulder up and separated it. i went to the emergency room right after i tried rellocating it a few times (doesnt work with a separated shoulder your arm just falls back out lol). waited 8 hours before seeing a doctor. the doctor i saw spoke HORRIBLE english and simply just gave me a prescription for pain medication and sent me on my way. i saw my family doctor about 4 months later (i was at school so i couldn't go right away), and he told me that i had a 3rd degree separation in my shoulder and that i should speak with a surgeon... get to see him on monday.

there are good doctors (my family doctor who is retiring soon :( ) and bad doctors (the 2 jerks who misdiagnosed me)

i missed 2 football seasons and 2 ski seasons because of some under qualified doctors who cant do their jobs right.

i dont care if a doctor is dealing with a scraped knee or heart surgery they should treat it all the same, or they should become dentists

the NHS has a waiting list of like 6 months for minor ops and up to 4 hours in major hospital so count your self lucky. and my dad works as a doctor so duze my sister and i can tell you one thing they fuking work there ass of i meen this aint your usual 9 till 5 job my dad works as a GP which is a general practitioner basically the doctor that comes to your house if you are ill on a average week he gets up at about 8 hes in work by 9 hes then home by 8 at night then he has a night shift and he covers a 50 mile radius hes been cald out at 4 in the morning to go to places in the middle of no where that are 2 hours drive.
