We have received notification from the recording/film industry that you have been distributing copyrighted materials via the University of Colorado computing network. A copy of that notification was sent to you recently

This distribution is against federal law, the University of Colorado at Boulders Policy on Acceptable Use of Electronic Copyrighted Materials, the Student Code of Conduct, and the ResNet service policy, which you accepted and agreed to when you registered your User ID and PIN number.

You must stop this distribution immediately and respond to Donna Pattee (contact information below) within two business days (i.e. by 3 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2008). In your written response, which may be sent electronically, you must

 acknowledge that the industry notification was correct and verify that distribution of copyrighted materials has ceased -OR-

 demonstrate that notification was unwarranted.

Failure to respond to this notice within two business days will result in suspension of your network access (that is, your hardware address will be put into quarantine). If your access is disabled, you will need to visit the ITS Security Office to sign an official letter of warning before your service will be restored.

Subsequent violations may result in immediate and permanent termination of network access, referral to the Office of Judicial Affairs, and/or referral to appropriate authorities for criminal or civil prosecution.
