Ever film waterskiing/wakeboarding?

yep - all summer every summer. what do ya need to know? I'm not a professional photographer or anything, but we do a lot of comps and we film when we're learning new shit, drunk, etc.

its usually shaky, and you need to get up high in the boat(stand up) if your in a low boat like a mastercraft because the spray off the side of the boat will get in every shot

well i was wondering if i could film sufficently from inside my boat doing 40 on a lake, or should i put the filmer in another boat and just carve around them?

thanks for the help

im a surf photographer mainly shooting from boats and jetskis, sometimes in the water.

if your taking photos being stable isn't massively important as long as your shutter speed is fast enough and you can roll with the swell, try and find cool angles like ialways thought someone in thewater would look kinda tight in wake boarding but that might just be me

yea, its called a chase boat, but I would only use that setup with a competent rider and and excellent drivers both tow and chase boats. Another option is to get an inner tube set the rope for it just short of the rider so the tube is a couple of feet in front of him. but you will need a water housing for your camera.

watch some wakeboard flicks and you will see the techniques they use, like where the chase boat is positioned and stuff.

i saw some little invention at a boat show once that looked kinda cool to me, but i dont know if it works.

basically it lets you attach a video camera to where the rope is connected to the boat and then it has 2 bars coming off, one on each side of the rope, so when the rope moves, it moves the camera with it. so its always looking right at the rider
