I think our level sucks compared to americans, probably because Mountains and tv's and sponsors are not putting all the money they should in the sport... But freestyle is growing every year and maybe in 4 or 5 years well be on the same point as the states r now. Its just a matter of resources thrown into the sport, if there ara good parks in the mountains, people ski park, if so, people get good, there are comps, sponsors take people, people see sponsored people=>more people ski park.. and thats how the sport grows

 
here they dont put as much money into parks, but in terms of backcountry and big kickers they are good, but americans are better at rails.

ya but since we dont forbid people to go offpist, they arent nearly as huge of well kept as the americans. i also think the europeans are generally better at all mouintain, not only offpist but carving too. that might just be a stereotype though

i think the european resorts suck hard because u sometimes don`t even have single serious park.

But u can have nice days because freeskiing isn´t so popular in good old Europe

 
well, as a canadian now doing my third season in europe (france), here's my take:

parks are shite compared to north america, but getting better. the kids around here are throwing it down hard and idolizing candide, regnier, etc > in a few years i think it'll be on the same level as the north american park rats. the local kids (10-14) years are trying inverts off BC booters, etc with no fear.

i ran into anthony boronowski & zach d shooting for War here (la plagne, france) and they had a big-ass booter built over a ski run (similiar to the cover of the burton catalogue) with people skiing underneath their jumps... just shit that back home the patrol would have been all over. they were saying about how in europe you can pretty much get away with anything.

basically limitless access to lift-served BC... the park scene is behind, but i think you don't get the phenomenon of park-only skiers here... most kids are growing up as all rounders, not park rats...

but don't worry the shit the PBP boys were wearing is still about a thousand times baggier than anything the euro guys are rockin... so north america still has the edge in gangsta steeze.

At the resort I instruct in Austria we don't even have a funpark... We are trying to have one buit for the last five years but so far, no luck!

We have shitloads of lift accessible BC and cliffs though!

No-one really cares what you do off piste... I have my favorite run through avalanche-fences and some really steep shit and cliffs. Only got one remark once and that was because I did it in my ski-instructors jacket!! It was like:,, Next time you do that don't do it in these clothes, you know thats forbidden!... please just do it in your own time..."

The cool thing to see is that all the little boys in the village at the age they used to switch to snowboards, now switch to twins. So within a few years the newschool-movement will be a lot more accepted.

When I skied on my twinnies for the first time about 4 years ago, everybody gave me shit about my weird ski's. Now only the lifties give me shit that I take up two spaces in the goldola ski-rack.

even though everyone says the parks suck in europe, there are still places with amazing parks. they tend not to have creative rails like in north america, but they really like building gigantic jumps. In the summer, certain places just go off. it's incredible, and beats whistler and hood hands down for summer jibbing.

wow the parks suck over here from what I have seen. I have only seen like a few jumps and like half pipes not nearly as good as in the states, but then again not all of the parks in the states are that good either
