Being out there skiing every day, good or bad, just playing around with friends, with no contests or filming- that is the real spirit of skiing for me. that is why i started skiing, and if i lose those moments that is what will make me stop skiing.

Canada is such a piece of shit country. There is nothing up there at all except for a couple good ski mountains. otherwise canada hasnt done shit, and never will. never been to europe but i heard is nice, austria.

Yea, I have skiied in whistler and it was excellent, the parks were way better than any I have been to in Europe, but Im moving to the west coast of the US which is why I was wondering how the skiing compares to Europe..

For Parks, definitely North America.

But for back country, and freedom to go wherever you want in the mountains, definitely Europe. Crazy mountains with huge amounts of vertical. And in places, not many skiers. so fresh tracks even after a week or so of no snow.

I skied a place called the 'dolomites' in Italy. It is a string of connected resorts. They say you can ski there for 2 weeks and not ski the same run twice. It was a couple of years ago so i dont know about parks. Their big mountain stuff is whicked and their terrain is vast and open - more so than USA and Canada. But i had just as good of a time in canada and USA. I was at Big Sky MT, which they compare to europe due to its wide open runs.

I am just saying that the only reason people know about canada is because they got a couple good mountains, otherwise people just think that canada is where eskimos live. It cant be a real country because they would be involved with world polotics, right?

europe... skiing is equally priced or even cheaper than skiing in the states and the terrain out there is much better. yea, maybe the parks are not as good, but when i travel to different resorts, im not going there for their park. i'd rather drive a couple hours to the nearest big mountain and hit their park. there are less lift lines, harder terrain, more stuff to ski, less OB, and best of all, the drinking age is 18. plus the fact that you are prolly in an amazing country where you can not only get some dope skiing but some sick sightseeing also.

 
for expanse i think europe would impress u yanks. u can literally ski 2 weeks without skiin the same run twice. but glabal warmin is hittin europe bad and snow conditions r a bit crap. u like get 5 powder days a season typically. the parks are not that hot at all, but the best places r in austria now. but its more challengin than the states i think. for park and pipe hit the us 4 sure but i never skied whistler but i think its the best all rounder u can find. but a massive thing is that europe for anyope not from europe is so dam expensive. we're gettin like 2$ to the £ so that means a pint of beer in france costs...$5 minimum with seasonnaire prices.

There comes a time in life when one must risk something or sit forever with one's dreams.
 
europe is only good some of the year other times it gets icier than the east coast. out west is the best choice, utah, colorado, wyonming, oregon, and mammoth.

they are soooo different its crazy. I have skiied both and prefer the US. European resorts are much biggger on the whole. The parks arnt great here, people are really angry. Its hard to explain the differences. americans will prefer europe and europeans will prefer the US. Come to europe if you have the chance and see for your self.

i forgot....the night life in europe is crazy. you get off the slope and most people head straight to the bar. You always end up still walking round in you ski boots at like 3am, most people do. its fun.

poorboy: i know what you mean by the people being 'angrier' to an extent, when i went to austria, the lift lines were brutal. absolutley no organization, it was kinda fun though, pushing and shoving to beat people up the mountain....it was kinda like a mosh pit on skis. but i went a few years ago, and im alot bigger now, i'd like to go back and kick some serious lift line euro ass

 
I think Euro is better for many things but Canada is the best over all, we have the best part of the rocky mountians, the best mix of backcountry and park. Every magazine you read put Whistler/Blackcomb the best place to ski in North America. All the best summer camps are there such as High North, Camp of Camps, etc. If you want to make it in skiing you go to Canada because you know that you will have a good chance of making it. Canada is where most of New School evolved.
