Who knows where skiing would be today without snowboarding? Regardless of whether or not we 'owe' snowboarding anything, the fact remains that its influence has changed the face of skiing.
An interesting topic to look into might be how the growth of snowboarding has actually brought life back to skiing... a sudden diversity and rivalry on the slopes has encouraged riders from both sides of the field to improve their skills, so both sports improve through the competition with each other.
Snowboarding brought new style to the mountain, too. Grabbing, although I won't deny its been done for decades on skis, never became a huge issue until it became the single largest icon of the freestyle snowboarding movement. Do you think skiers would be grabbing as much as they do now if it wasn't for the influence of snowboarding?
And, a very important issue: how long have terrain parks been around? Answer: since snowboarding has been around. If there wasn't snowboarding, there would be no parks. Where did skiers learn to jib rails? Yes yes... snowboarding.
