Essay for photography

well this is gay, i have to write a written essay for photography class on a specific topic of photography. problem is i dont know where the hell to start looking when it comes to researching ski photography. anyone no any sites that have even the slightest bit of info?
 
you picked a pretty specialized topic.

maybe you should broaden it out or sacrafice the ski thing and do war photography, with emphasis on vietnam era. you'll probably find it easier to put the essay together.
 
ski photography???? I recommend taking a real elements of photography and analyse that. Some examples would be line, lighting, depth of field, texture, compostition, etc.

OR

take a field of photography such as landscape, street, portrait, Macro.

Another topic i have done is a comparision of B&w film vs Color and how each element(light, line, texture, compostition, exposure) is affected by it.

Or

If you like action shots, write an essay on the different approachs to capturing motion. The idea being to explain how changing the ISO speed, F/stop, Depth of field, Exposure, lens, lighting and angle can create a very different mood. You would probably want to be able to shoot some examples though.
 
exactly. ski photography is way to specialized. pick something like he mentioned (light, angles, aperature/shutter speed, etc.) and you'll have a million options. plus, it will help you learn more about photography. doing an essay on ski photography won't teach you anything.
 
im telling you though, do vietnam photography.

you have no idea how important photography was to ending the war.

for example eddie adams, execution of an nva photograph and most of call nick ut photo of the girl running down the highway naked from a napalm bomb. all these photographs portrayed the brutality of the war. and nick ut photograph especially since it was right at the end of the war in 1972 and the american government had already lost the hearts and minds of the people and that picture sealed the deal.
 
good call. Vietnam photography (or any modern war photography) would be an excellent subject. without vietnam war photography, who knows where we'd be.

i was under the impression that the assignment was to write about an element of photography instead of a specific style.
 
check out http://www.jamesnachtwey.com/ for one the more recent war photographers. I think his work is great even though subjects and situations are rather sad. That kind of photojournalism is the kind of photojournalism that can make at least a slight difference - if any photography can - in something.
