Erik Olson

He's got it right.

On another note though, I've seen more and more topics like this lately, so I think it looks like what everybody is so worried about is not going to happen. Just think, probably 90% of NS, myself included think Orage masters is the best thing ever, that's a good sign.

I always wondered what he was doing all the time because I never saw him in things. Now I have so much more respect for him because he doesn't care about that shit.

man what he said kind of scared me about skiing and the olympics. The idea of skiing becoming a sport like he described is terrifying.

I want it to stay the way it is...

The Olympics could change park skiing[/b]. People are going to see each kid as a membership fee. It will make kids join USSA and have a coach and be on a team. It would turn skiing into baseball practice. Then you’re 19 and you’re too old for the program, so you drop the sport like you would baseball.

this....

I was at my home hill earlier this year and this kid that was about 10 threw a sweet 540 over like a 15, and then I saw him again in the mini park. He was with his his coach and the 5 other kids on this "team" if you want to call it that. I told the kid that his 540 was sweet and i was honestly stoked on how happy this kid was to hear that someone liked his trick. The coach leans in to him and says that he should work on more mute grabs on the small jumps cuz its the only way he would win any contests. The kid says, "no i want to do another 5"... the coach then looks at me and says "He should work on his mutes, right?" I looked at the coach and said, "No i totally disagree with you. If the little guy wants to do another 540 he should be able to. Skiing isn't about winning the most comps its about what you want to do on the hill. Hence the word FREE in free skiing. everyone skis their own way and if you want to dictate the way he skis then your a bad free skiing coach."

i hate seeing stuff like that where i could tell that the kids parents made him do the freestyle program instead of skiing alone and i could tell the kid just wanted to ski the way he wanted too. not how some guy in a uniform jacket says he should.

I remember reading this when it came out in the magazine; definitely one of my favorite interviews I have ever read. I agree with every single word.

I thought about posting this article to, Erik knows exactly whats up and if skiing turns into a thing of being on a team, that would be my worst nightmare.

I remember reading it in the magazine. Best interview I've ever read. His prediction about skiing's future was scary though, I really hope that doesn't happen.
