Epic Pass or IKON Pass?

I'm trying to decide which pass next season and it seems like both have a great variety of resorts but I'm curious to see what y'all think

In order of best to worst: Indy pass, mountain collective, ikon, epic. U are not going to ski as much as you think.

Honestly I would wait to see what each pass will offer... I've heard rumors of some resorts being limited or being completely taken off the ikon/epic pass, but it's only rumors.

Not sure where you got your info. Ikon just posted there 2021/22 pass today and it doesn't look like there are any significant changes that I noticed.

You're just acting ignorant because? vail and alterra both control a shit ton of resorts, many where its the only resort for miles...

Sorry that a college epic or IKON pass is cheaper than the pass to the three NC resorts in my home town

??? you always have a choice = you don’t have to ski

So you're saying someone shouldn't ski over buying an epic pass or ikon pass to their local resort? Spot on rhetoric for a ski website.

Like anyone would do anything that stupid. Hurrr drrr I could ski multiple resorts some with unlimited days giving me literal worldwide access to 25+ resorts and 100+ days of skiing for $900 or stay home hrrr drrr what a dumbass thing to say, no one with a proper sized skull would opt out of buying a pass, even without lodging savings the pass pays for itself in under 10 days most places, I for one hit that by December

Only place I would say epic beats ikon would be BC with Whistler. Everywhere else ikon has better mountains. Don't know about the east coast, I'm sure someone will chime in.

Out east ikon has killi, sugarbush, the loaf, Sunday River , loon, snowshoe and some other not really worth mentioning

epic pass has more east resorts but aside from Stowe mt snow and wildcat they suck., plus fuck vail

Ikon pass is the best way to be unanimously hated by every employee at the resort. Im sure the same goes for having an epic pass at vail resorts.

Did not experience this at copper, key, a basin, dv, mammoth, or any of the east coast ikon resorts in the past 4 years...

why would the employees have issues with an ikon holder? Hell some of us there tippin, tossing Js or at least saying thank you, hell most lefties compliment my shit as my Ikon’s dangling there. The only people I’ve ever heard complain are on the ski sites, or skiers complaining in line

people seem to have a hard time comprehending that thousands of people buy ikon/epic passes to their local mountains, its not negative there, ikon is just shit talked on by ppl who ride at the resorts with limited days.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It's literally the only way to ski at all of the vail resorts.

Well we can’t directly tell tourists to fuck off but everyone from my supervisors, to f&b employees, hell even lift maintenance talks shit on ikon holders.

You know what? You guys are right. I’m going to put my $600 dollar ikon through the paper shredder and instead spend 10k on various season passes so I can be as core as you guys.

Guessing you work at Bachelor? I don't even know if Seven Springs is on the pass.

Even so, my Ikon pass gets 7 days their max. Are Ikon pass holders worse people? I'm still not sure what you're getting at. Are they coming from the cities and ruining your serene and cathartic experience of being in the mountains, away from it all?

I would also imagine that the money spent by those Ikon pass holders, you don't need right? Again, sorry that you don't like the way the industry is trending but this isn't 2000 where you can buy a season pass for $250 and a day ticket for $35.

JH did the math a couple seasons back, 5 out of 6 ikon pass holders would still be there with some other lift ticket.

I dont think its unfair to say the IKON passes have increased the number of skiers, it makes skiing more accessible. Everyone wants skiing to be cheaper and more accessible until it affects them personally...

There are 2 things that can be done. I think it should be with the Ikon pass that you reserve the days you want to be there early season. This will help make it so that their is less of a zoo effect on any pow day with out of staters flying in and renting a car for the weekend.

We all know that isn't going to happen, only thing thats gonna stop the IKON pass is the resorts themselves.

Only other way to give skiing the feel it had before Ikon is more terrain and more lifts, which also won't happen.

If u buy an ikon and stay out of SLC and mammoth you probably aren’t hurting anyone

The only pass option at mammoth is an IKON pass my dude.

honestly yeah most of the out of state ikon pass holders that flocked here the entire month of February were pretty shitty people. Constantly bitching at staff over things we have no control over like crowds, why a lift isn’t running on a storm day, parking and any number of other things. Also I wouldn’t call bend a cathartic experience in the mountains away from it all, if I wanted that I’d just go buy a sled and move as far north in Montana as possible.

You can't really use the 20/21 season to compare or complain, it was a much different year this year. Im not defending these people, but ppl dont just move to mountain towns/citys normally, im guessing most are gonna move back to wherever they came from.

Im aware things were very different this year and it was way more of a shit show at pretty much every resort. Lots of people just deciding they would pick up skiing this year since there was nothing else for them to do. Same the folks who decide to get 6 month rentals in mountain towns will inevitably leave when they stop working from home and kids have to be back in school full time. I understand the minority of NSers that buy an ikon or epic pass are most likely good people but need to take into account it’s a minuscule percentage compared to the average person that’s buying one.

I'm sure the people who've payed 3000 dollars for upscale apartments in concrete jungles who just had a great time in a mountain town, saved tons of money, and can still work remotely are gonna move back. Yeah hahaha totally!!!

I think you're underestimating the amount of money these kinda people have, most people won't be working at home next winter and these people will move home now that they can go to the movies and hit the club or whatever, ppl left cali because literally everything was shut down, nearby utah everything is open... I think we all need to take a breath and just wait for next year, I think it will be less busy but maybe im wrong.

All of you are wrong about this by the way. They are actually fewer skiers at the resorts this year than last. Across vail resorts they are down 17% source:https://snowbrains.com/vail-resorts-skier-visits-down/

The only reason it feels more busy is because the lifts are at like 50% capacity because they aren't packing everyone in.

that article is almost 3 months old brother, lots of skiing has happened since then, its been insanely busy. thats also for a 3 day period comparing directly to the same period last year, dec/january was a historically dry period in the west this year, thats why the numbers were down.

Vail has earnings again tomorrow, let's see what they say for the last three months.

I will say you're not entirely wrong, the lift lines are a product of covid regulations, not necessarily more skiers, but its not necessarily the concentrated amounts during busy seasons, moreso the overall crowdedness of the town/resort feels worse than ever, traffic in the cottonwoods has never been worse, its more than just the number of tickets vail sells.

btw their earnings will be down, the resorts aren't making as much money as usual.

Sounds like y’all a bunch o dickheads.

So in other words, since there’s a few bad apples they are all rotten and should be hated... idk if I should compare this to racism or nazis. I get there’s a lotta Karen’s and chads on ikon giving y’all shit, but don’t h8 the demographic that includes us, bc some lifties are dicks, and some aren’t,same for patrol and none the less, we appreciate you so...
