Eos T1i? or save an go with the 7D?

So i am looking into either the T1i or the 7D but price does matter since i am unemployed an still in school an all, just wondering what your guys opinions are.

Thanks

I asked the same question when I was buying a DSLR but being able to take vid on the same cam with good quality is nice.

There's a pretty huge gap between the two. Have you considered the 40/50D route? Or is video that important to you?

how much experience do you have with a dslr? how far do you want to take your photo/video work? is this like occasional hobby shooting or intense amateur photo with some paid work?
i'd say the 7d but it makes no sense if you don't have much dslr experience and you're looking to learn

its $800 more for the 7D, and how much experience do you even have? if your just getting your first dslr, then i think the T1i will do fine, again i dont know if your really need the video as bad as you think, yea its cool and a nice feature, but why not get a actual HD camera then instead of just buying a DSLR with decent video abilities? but T1i is my suggestion.

i do have experience with a dslr but this will just be a hobbie im not trying to get into professional photography or anything, this will be my first time actually owning a dslr so im thinking the t1i would be the way to go

^ Good choice!!!!! If you want video abilities for fun and a good beginner camera that shoots great pictures look at the EOS T1I. Look into saving the money in the difference and get a nice lens instead.

I went with the D5000 a few months ago because I wanted the video ability. Im happy with the video from the camera as it's easy on the eyes and I feel it looks pretty clean. HOWEVER, once I bought the camera I realized how much I was limited by only having the kit lens (18-55mm 3.5-5.6 I believe) something along those lines. I then also bought a zoom lens a 55-200mm 4.0-5.6 I think, and now I just bought a 50mm 1.8 prime lense (SUPER STOKED ON THIS LENS, GREAT LENS BY THE WAY).

After this I wanted to get flashes so I just bought one vivitar 285hv, an air cushioned stand, flash clamp and some cactus radio triggers for the flash.

So for the camera and kit lens I paid= 700

55-200 lens = 130

50mm 1.8 Lens= 50

Vivitar 285hv flash new= 83.97

Air cushioned flash stand = 75

Clamp = 15.00

Cactus Triggers off ebay = 20.00

I am going to add one more flash eventually probably getting one for Christmas. But as you can see I spent basically 1075 on a setup. To be honest, nothing out of what I bought will help me get better video. So what I am trying to say is if you dont want the video that bad and want to save money, dont get the T1i. You can get a camera and nice lenses that will take AWESOME pictures for much less.

Here are some sample videos from my D5000

I would imagine since the D5000 and the T1i are competitors that the video quality would be about the same (Dont quote me on that). So there are some examples.

So basically you can save money get a nice camera and NICE lenses for less than the 7D with no video

You can get the T1i with ok/good video capabilities and about the same setup I have for about the same price

Hope this helps a little..

You end up spending a lot more on photography than you think, at least i did haha

exactly, i bought my 40D and havent had the funds lately to buy myself any new glass, i want a 50mm macro or 1.8 and could use a nice tele, but im saving for needed ski gear, fortunately i can borrow these, its just easier if i owned them lol

for that price difference i wouldnt get the 7d, my opinion on dslrs that shoot video is that you shouldnt do it. think about it for that price difference you can buy a hv30 and have a camera thats made FOR video. buy a 50d and an hv30 if you wanna do both. just my 2 cents

buy extension tubes for 100 bucks, they're super fun and damn good for macro with the 50mm 1.8, it's like a 175 dollar investment and you get a bomb portrait lens and a macro lens all in one

^ oh i deffanatly know about the dof adapters and would love to get one for my xh, just saying there are many other things for someone who is just getting into videography to worry about before dof. and if your are just playing aorund with it idk about you but i would much rather follow cam/ make park edits of your friends on an hv then on a t1i, if thats what you plan on doing

I am going to use my D5000 this year to make park edits.. becuase its only a 1 chip though i dont know how stable its going to look.. i will probably ski with a tripod attached to make it a little more stable and try to counter the jello effect.
