Entry level gaming PC

Yo I couldn't find a pre existing thread so

I'm looking for a gaming PC cheap, but decent. I dont know a ton about computers but i know I need something with good CPU GPU RAM to run rainbow 6 minecraft and shredsauce without it being super slow frames or just being super slow in general

Hit me with it

What's your price range?

Do you have a keyboard, mouse and monitor already?

No I do not have any but I'm not super concerned about keyboard or mouse unless you would say differently I'm not sure about a monitor

Price range I'm not sure yet I've heard you cant really get a good setup for under like 600 but I found a website that has parts to build a decent one (I think) i assume its cheaper to build your own. I'm totally capable of building my own as well

Just trying to factor those into costs. What settings/FPS are you looking to obtain?

You can get under $600 but it may not give you the results you want.

reddit.com/r/buildapcforme may help you get the results you want. I'm not well-versed enough to get you best bang for you buck at that price range.

You will be best served with an APU (CPU with an integrated GPU) that will save you the most money and you can always upgrade both later. A good motherboard goes a long way. Getting a decent case that is easy to build in will save you a lot of headaches

buy a solid motherboard and case so you can always upgrade as you increase your budget

prolly worth the extra money to upgrade the cpu/gpu. maybe i5 and gtx 1660?

Right

I think I run like 60 frames per second on my xbox and that seems to work fine but I wont really be playing very intense graphics games only R6 so. Would i be better off getting something that would give me a decent playing experience on r6 (I'm not concerned about shredsauce or minecraft because ik they will be fine) or should I just get something that would give me a excellent experience on r6 then not have to upgrade later

Btw thanks for your guys help

Idk even know if I'll get something soon maby later when I get get a actual job and then have a bigger price range. Or I might get something decent then upgrade as I go

Just an FYI, xbox doesnt run over 60fps, with a PC you can get a monitor that is 144hz and if you can run games at 144fps its very smooth and you actually have an advantage over playing at 60fps on a 60hz tv or monitor. For games like r6, you want to run it at the highest frame rate possible.

Rainbow is pretty easy to get high FPS in. OP you should consider that if you want to upgrade in the future, it's going to cost you more than if you'd have just bought something better in the first place. Plugging in a GPU is easy but replacing a CPU is a bit harder and motherboard dependent. Computers aren't getting much better year after year, it's not like your setup will become so obsolete in a few years that it's useless. If you bought one of the AMD 6c 12t CPUs and a decent GPU, it's going to be a long time before you need to upgrade.

highly doubt he'd be able to play r6 with no gpu

PCPartPicker should be your main resource. It'll guide you through everything you need and where to buy it all. As far as GPUs go, if it fits into your budget, check out the incoming rtx 30 series cards from nvidia. The entry level model 3070 smokes most cards on the market and is only $499.

Yeah his price range seems to be sub-$600 so that rules out any of the 2 or 3 series from Nvidia. That 3070 is a steal fwiw though. Thing is a beast. Part of me regrets buying a 2070s in May but I needed a desktop for work and figured COVID may delay the release for the 3 series till year end.

PCPartPicker is great if you know what kind of settings you want to run a game on. I've never played R6S so I don't know what kind of hardware it requires.

If you have a 144hz monitor but are playing at 60 fps, does that feel the same as a 60 hz monitor at 60 fps? Or would you not even play at 60 fps with a 144hz monitor? I'm kind of computer retarded

the human eye refreshes at 60 fps. imo anything over that is compensating for lag.

if time happens on 1,2,3,4

and human eye refreshes on 1,3

a 60 fps might refresh on 2,4

but 120 fps will refresh on 1,2,3,4

and 240 on 0.5,1,1.5,2

and so on

so necessary? no

cool? still no

60fps on 144hz in theory looks fine, but after you play at a higher frame rate, it feels choppy.

144hz and 240hz monitors make a huge difference for gaming. When it comes down to raw numbers, you are correct about the ability of the human eye to see a certain amount of frames, what you're missing here is that when you have 144fps (or higher) objects appear on your screen earlier than at 60fps. This isn't about how many frames you can see but rather the image on the screen, at 144fps the enemy will appear on the screen earlier in real time than it does on 60fps because the amount of frames "smooths" out the motion of the object, making it easier to see faster, especially if you're playing a fast paced, online FPS game.

Anyone who gets a 144hz + monitor will tell you its better, it might not make sense on paper, but it's very real. So with your question at the end is it necessary? If you want the full gaming experience using a 144hz monitor (or higher) is necessary, but you can definitely play games at 60hz, you're just missing out on the best experience.

Does getting a certain monitor matter other then the 144hz or is there other things to factor into when getting a monitor

I would say you're looking for a 1080p monitor that is 24-27" most pro gamers use 24-25" but some people like using up to 30" its moreso preference there. Some monitors are 120hz, thats fine too, but if you get 144hz expect to pay at least $300. The setup you're getting might not even support over 100fps on most games so you'd probably be fine with a 60hz monitor to start.

Mouse and keyboard is preference, but I would recommend a mechanical keyboard.

Ok.

If you are only playing 3 games and you only need to upgrade for one, is it worth dropping $600 just to play that single game? Maybe it is, I don't know you or your wants.

Buying something that is "future-proof" isn't a thing if you need ultra settings with a high fps. New games come, new tech comes, and you will want to spend more. The upgrade route usually ends up with incompatibility issues when you pass the 5+ year mark depending on tech improvements. If you can't afford to drop the cash just save it and spend it more wisely on something else that you would enjoy.

Yeah true I was kinda generalizing in playing only 3 games I will play more, but you are a hundred percent correct in saving and stuff, I dont even know if I'm going to get one but

I'm running a Ryzen 3700x, x570 elite and an R9390 GPU. GPU is outdated and is due to be upgraded soon enough. Pcpartpicker and r/buildapc are great resources. Spend more money upfront and you'll be good.

I mostly play battlefield 4 and I run 130-160 FPS consistently

Have a ROG Strix G531GT with 16gb RAM and a GTX 1660 Ti. For a gaming laptop it is pretty solid. Only came with 500gb of space but has an extra slot so plan on adding either a 1tb or 2tb SSD. Also plan to add another 16gb RAM. It can already handle MSF 2020 on Ultra settings (though poor frame rate).

Eventually (when I have a house and space) I will have a dedicated desktop but this does just fine for now.
