ENO Hammocks

Hey y'all,

Ive been tryna do some research on ENO hammocks that I can use for example on campus on my porch or anywhere really. I defiantly want to be able to transport it easily and easily set it up wherever. Any recommendations would be awesome.

Also if anyone has one for sale I would be willing to purchase it.

Ya they're sweet. In the summer you can significantly cut down on your backpacking gear by just taking one of those instead of a tent, pad, sleeping bag. Super comfy and simple.

i feel like the sleeping bag is entirely independent of what shelter you choose to sleep in, no? the hammock isnt insulated right?

Ive been looking into grabbing one for mellow, good weather 2-3 day trips. Does it cover over you to protect you in a heavy dew, wind whipping over you?

for those that actually use it Backpacking, what are the major drawbacks you have found, and what are the benefits(not counting comfort, because that is entirely subjective)?

Most of my backpacking is down in the eastern sierra, or right on the edge of treeline and i realize that is not its intended use. Im mainly looking at it for coastal redwood or tahoe area trips.

this. plus if you're sleeping alone and it's a tad chilly/there's bugs you can pull the extra over you. and it gives you a ton more room to sprawl out in

been on many a solo trips with my eno, rain and shine. It's been awesome, and I would totally just lounge in it if that was what I used it for, they are definitely comfy. Like previously mentioned though get a double over a single

Just a simple rain tarp! All you have to do is string a single line above your hammock and stake the other two corners into the ground around the hammock. I've been through some super gnarly storms without any issues like this, just make sure to buy a big enough tarp!

If you want some more tips this is a good forumhttps://www.hammockforums.net/

wouldnt this just negate the weight savings of the hammock? I guess i wouldnt have to worry about the tent getting flooded though, huh?

what are the biggest drawbacks to backpacking with a hammock instead of tent? Im interested in getting one, and everyone alsways mentions the positives, but rearely the negatives- something i dont want to have to find out for myself in the BC haha!

the weight is still gonna be less, unless you're using an ultra expedition weight tent. plus the size is unbeatable, mines about the size of a nalgene bottle with the straps stacked on top. and a tarp you can just strap to the outside of your pack.

thats generally about the size of a 2 perrson+footprint.

You been backpacking with it much? what are the negatives? There have to be some pretty solid downsides(only useful in treed areas obviously), or everyone would be using these.

my only big negative that I have noticed thus far is that it is difficult to do some of the things that you could inside a tent if it is raining out. If you don't want to get wet, you are pretty much stuck inside of the hammock not doing much. Its kinda a pain to get changed inside em/go through your pack. That's really the only thing I've noticed and I have done up to 10 day solos.

Super awesome, I sleep best with a blow up sleeping pad underneath as it gives it a bit more of support and insulation. My main complaint is it gets a little chilly with air being able to move freely below you, but as long as night temps don't drop too much, they treat you great in the summer.

In the pics it looks like there is a top that you can zip up over you. Does that protect against rain or do you need a tarp over it

I second this. Fantastic purchase. Lived in the Panama rainforest for a month with mine and it worked brilliantly

are the grand trunk ones just as good as the ENO ones? I just found a double with hanging kit for $60 and im about to buy it, they look basically identical looking at pictures.

i have a double wide eno set up under my lofted bed at school and its amazing for those nights when im just a little too blazed to climb up a chair and a desk to go to sleep

plus i use it all the time to camp and what not.

but mostly to pass out in when high out of my mind

I have one and it's awesome. I live in NC so in the summer it's still warm at night and it's perfect because a tent would get too hot. Get the double nest, it's fun to have a girl in in and if you get cold you can make like a cocoon.

I dont have an ENO, got mine off the clymb for stupid cheap. wind is definitely the biggest issue. but if you have a nice bag/bring a pad with you it helps a ton. iv fit two people in mine before. definitely only enough room for cudddles but its aight cuz that was the goal. a lot of fun to take to a park and watch a sunset or chill with the lady.

my biggest issue is what has been mentioned before in that you cant really take any of your stuff out of you bag if it's wet.

Double-Wide Hammock

Slap Straps

Sleeping Pad w/ ENO "Hotspot"

ENO Rain Fly

Sleeping Bag

This set-up will get you through any three-season camping trip. Get the double wide, it is hardly bigger (packed) and the added size is worth it for many reasons. When cold out wind circulating around gets chilly, get a sleeping pad and buy the ENO hotspot to slip your sleeping pad into. The hotspot is seriously the shit, it will make a huge difference in keeping you warm and comfy. The ENO pro fly rainfly will keep everything dry during a down poor and fits perfectly over your hammock.

I spent 10 days in Oregon last spring and over half the time it was raining. I would put my gear on the ground below me at night, then when I woke up in the day put the gear up on my hammock, totally sealed off with the rainfly above. Best set-up ever.

Have you compared your grand trunk to the ENO? Any major differences that might make one better than the other? Other than the obvious build in fly net you have.
