if your from england put were you ski hear so we can all see were each other skis. i ski up ski rossendale(dry slope)
 
Chatham sometimes, Milton Keynes if i can get there or the air bag up at Gosling Sports park (Wellyn Garden City. Also Gloucester but it's shit there, the worst jump i've ever hit
 
How long are those indoorslopes you have there? It's probably not worth going to the UK for them cuz we're pretty spoiled here, but i'd just like to know it.
 
about 100-200m long, the "park slopes" tend to be smaller, also we have indoor snow domes which make parks on certain nights, they tend to have very impressive rail features
 
seeing as we're on the subject of skiing in the uk, does anyone know what's happening about snoasis? last i heard it was going ahead...
 
i used to ski at sheffield... gave up a while back. i get out to france quite a bit. will be in chamoniX for a fair bit of easter. you won't see me though cos' i'll be touring for most of it. can't freaking wait.
 
snoasis is a huge new dome they're gonna build in anglia. its far bigger than any indoor slope in the world (except maybe dubai). it will be a whole resort- hotels, chalets and shit, 500m slope. not sure whether or not its gonna be built tho...
 
i ski rosendale to, though havnt had the chance to get up there recently, hoping to go up 2morrow afternoon though its not certain. going to tignes mid march to see my roomy from last season - can't wait!

the resorts are pretty lame due to the poor continuity of the weather. i live in scotland and there is some ok snow right now but it'll be gone by this time next week.

its over priced too so that the resorts can afford to stay open.
 
Haha, why is everyone thinking that that Dubai slope is the largest? We (the Dutch) have the greatest indoor slope of the world. 35.000 m2 coverd in snow, whahaha.... only thing is that the Belgians just started building an indoorslope which will be 4 times as big and will have a green, blue, 2 red and a black slope :p
 
sounds sick but i cant help thinking that its kinda crazy building all this indoor stuff. i thought skiing was about the great outdoors?
 
Yeah but outdoor skiing in the UK consists of slopes made out of lots of toothbrushes, or slopes with more rocks than snow up north in scotland. Im riding at whistler at the moment, should be here till the end of april
 
i spent a year in whistler and i miss it like crazy. my poit though is that there are so many kick ass 'extreme' sports in the uk that dont need synthetic fabricaion that it seems crazy to spend so much money on indoor/dry slopes
 
I feel sorry for england, but dryslope skiing is freakin crazy I must say.

Either way, Im very happy I live in California, where the Beach is just hours from the mountains.
 
i put this in the dry slope thread aswell - but look at it - if u lived thousands of miles from the nearest ski resort you'd use it - and have a damn good time

Yeah but as a country were just crazy about skiing/snowboarding. Just look at how many UK skiing and snowboarding mags we have. Dont hold me to it, but i think we have around 15, thats quite a lot for a country that doesnt have mountains. Most people who ski only get a week holiday at a mountain resort, so the main point of dryslopes/indoor snow are for all of those who need their fix of skiing. And just what do you mean by lots of kick ass 'extreme sports', i cant really think of that many
 
white watr kayaking in the uk is awesome, single track mtb is pretty damn good too. there are also climbing areas in the uk that are world class..need more? the only down side to the uk s that you have to really want to get out there and get involoved. its not put on our laps so it doesn't maybe suit the lazy ass british attitude.

fair enough these other extreme sports are cool, but my kick comes from skiing, and if i have to pay £9 for a 2 hour session on an giant toothbrush then im happy to do it with a smile on my face
 
Hey, dont call us Brits lazy, especially when a good portion of americans have a British heritage.

Belive you me, if we were lazy, we would have never established a great empire throuout the world, and we sure as hell would have never won world war 1 nor 2.

We are a strong people, and I resent at you calling us lazy. Sure, there are those here that fit the snobbish stereotype of Brits, but there are those kind of people all over the world.

So bug off.

dry slope really isn't that crazy once you've done it a few times. it's just no substitue really, not unless you really do just ski a couple of jumps/rails all your life! i'm sure for some people on this site they'd probably be cool with that!
 
No we do not. Why do you think I would rather live in America than my homeland of Britain? Its absurd to say we hate americans...

I love it here in California, I can surf one day, then ski the next. In Britain, you can TRY to surf, but the water is ridiculusly cold and ussually too overbearing for any real good break, and you can TRY to ski, but its all dryslope or machine made indoor crap.

Its nothing like skiing at tahoe, although, I really like dryslope skiing, its way different that actually skiing, but its really fun.
 
rossendale rocks. and the indoor slopes have a layer of snowflex then made up snow over it so it just ski-ing on sheet ice for a few hour, but you get used to it. And in the summer when nothings goin on up the slopes and we have the aimes(which is pretty big in england) you will all be comeing over to steal our glory. so the english are better than the americans at 2 things now.

1) fish and chips.

2) summer/aurtem comps.
 
Hillend and sometimes Bellahuston in Glasgow. Bearsden is getting redone with dendex and an xscape is about to open so i'll prob ride there more when im home from Whistler (nice)!

This is false mate. I live near San Francisco, They had a comp there back in August that they took tons of snow from the Sierras packed it into a couple of lorries, and put it one of the steepest streets of San Francisco. Then they had professional skiers and Snowboarders hucking all afternoon. It was the most incredible things I had ever seen.

Way cooler than anything I have seen back in Britain.
 
Rossendale, Sheffield and Castleford.

Although was born and raised on the sunny slopes of Swadlincote!
