Engineering College?

what are some good engineering drafting schools out in CO? i am a drafter so i use autodesk, solid works, and pro-e. i have been looking around , but i live in MI and want to get people opinions on some good schools out west preferably CO or UT

the school is amazing, admissions are crazy tough though... you need to be on your a-game.

it's in golden which is ok but only 20 minutes to denver, 40 minutes north to boulder.

winter park is an hour, 70 miles to summit county, etc.

 
for sure. don't know the programs downtown but denver has a huge campus in the middle of it all; metro state, UCD and something else all in one spot.
 
that was my first thought but i really want to get out west, because i hate MI but im only a sophmore so i have a little while to look i just want to see whats out west
 
It may not have the best reputation as a good school and I may be a little biased cuz I go here, but CU Boulder has the 18th best Engineering program among public universities. The people here are really down to earth, not a bunch of nerds who have their nose in their books all day. The work is challenging, but I have 25 days in this year already, so it is very doable to ski and do well in school. Plus the campus is amazing...come visit if you are seriously considering cuz it will be at the top of your list after the trip. A bay, Keystone & Breck within an hour 15 to an hour 30 on a good day, vail within 2 hours and you can take a 40 min free bus to eldora on weekdays. Just my 2 cents
 
but mines is known to be just about the world's best engineering school. if you're serious about engineering and care more about that than skiing, go to mines, if you're not that serious, go to cu.
 
Although Mines is definitely a good school it is certainly NOT one of the world's best engineering schools. Hard to beat that proximity to the mountains. In fact I highly doubt that it is rated higher than CU in most types of engineering. If you are looking at a very specialized type of engineering such as petroleum engineering than obviously Mines has some things that CU does not have. I'm definitely not trying to hate on Mines cause I know a lot of people who go there are really happy and like it a lot, but another thing to consider is the happiness at the school you are picking. Mines has been rated one of the most unhappy schools in the country for years. I personally like CU's engineering school a lot and have found the classes very challenging and feel like it has set me up well for getting a job down the line. Another thing to consider for the future is that CU has some awesome grad programs in engineering, several of which are ranked in the top 10 in the country. If you have any questions bluegavin269 shoot me an email about CU, if you come take a tour at Boulder I could probably give you a quick tour around our lab(Civil) too.
 
didnt want, to take up a bunch of space by quoting, but from just above I couldn't agree more with Mike.Records. Mines is definetely known for an amazing petroleum engineering program, but CU has some great programs to offer too. The classes are challenging enough as it is at CU and the engineering school here is no joke. I looked at both CU and Mines and I decided that I wanted a bigger college with a larger variety of people, which I felt Mines didnt offer like CU could. You only get to go to college once and I wanted to work hard, but also wanted to be able to go to Division 1 NCAA sporting events, have more of a social life and meet people who are different from myself because it is nice to get away from engineers every once and a while. Nothing against Mines, but CU was just the better fit for me.
 
this kid knows what's up. mines is a great school but you'll definitely be exposed to a more social educational career at CU.

why don't you visit both? boulder takes a certain type of person to "get" it but is good times, while golden is boring it's a full 30 minutes closer to the hills. pick your poison.
 
If you are going to do basic engineering (mechanical, civil, electrical, chemical, or engineering physics) or want to work in the energy field (Petroleum, Geology) go to school of mines. If you are interested in aerospace go to CU because the size of the school can accommodate the expenses associated with aerospace and they are good at it. Other than that from my experience with the type of engineering schools that are small and solely dedicated to engineering provide a better education. Also, if you are wanting to go to college in CO for the skiing, you still must put school above skiing or you wont make it at especially in engineering.
