End of the World

i think death by armageddon would be rather glorious... anyone else feel this way?

i mean shit its about the most epic way to die ever....

Well it's not a thing you can predict, I mean how are you supposed to know if a huge fucking meteor is heading for earth from billions of miles away. When you think how long the earth has been here, and then how long we've been on it, the chances of it happening during our reign on earth are slim. Unless you believe all that shit about the big planet that's gonna knock earth the fuck out in the near future. Planet X i think?

Yo I was watching some show about these areas that are just like decimated and the ground is covered in just a huge sheet of glass, made from superheated sand from broken up asteroids. They said that breaking it up with missiles would make that kind of thing happen. Yo Armageddon with glass floors.

Yeah I like the science channel, step off me and Bill Nye.
 
Geological composition of old strata layers? Impacts do happen, and the early solar system was a wild and chaotic place. Like a overcrowded house party, just 10X the shit broken.
 
One good way to tell is of course impact craters. Another accurate way to tell is finding an ash marker bed. When a volcano erupts or a celestial body hits the earth large amounts of ash are deposited over a large area. These layers are then compressed into shale marker beds that can be seen in outcrops or on a gamma ray log. This way you can see how large and when a catastrophic event occurred.

Whats really crazy to think about is that in the first time for the history of the earth there is something living on it that can actually stop this from happening. There are lot of ideas out there but they say the most likely is to use the gravity of a large space craft to slowly nudge the object out of the earths path. They also say we will have about 10 years warning... I think don't quote me on that last part.
 
The scary part is that every 200,000 years or so, theres an impact on the scale of the one off the Yucatan that supposedly wiped out the dinosaurs. We're quite overdue.
