"Emo" music has been around since the 1980's and music like My Chemical Romance , Dashboard confessionals, Death Cab and Weezer are not emo,they are pop punk in my mind. For some reason people think that all music dealing with emotions these days that have a guitar are emo. Where the Beatles emo? Is Radiohead emo?
Emo is a subgenre of hardcore punk.ANd is the most retarded term ever.It has been around for a while now, and the only reason people hate it is because its a fad now. The kids that dress emo and act differnt are no differnt then people who listen and dress gangster. NO they are not actually depressed, but I doubt 90% of the people that listen to rap have been shot,sure some form so called gangs but its jsut as big of a joke.
Now all you emo haters just ignore it, most of the "emo" kids are at a point in their lives where they simply want attention.
It drives me nuts a bunch of good pop punk,hardcore punk and screamo that I have been listening to for years are being called "emo"a genre in my mind that doesnt exist.

I would argue that sublime is punk, and boarderline ska for some songs. But it doesnt matter what they are they make good songs.
