pipe munky half those bands dont even come close to emo.. you dont know what the genre is. Emo stands for emotional.. boy sets fire is punk.. i dont care if you call it emopunk punkrock emo-pop whatever, its not the original genre of emo. Its the type of music that is being called emo mistakenly and being thrown out to kids as good music. i dont care if you like it or not, dont call it emo. there are plenty of bands out there that already hold that title that are alot different then the ones you mentioned... here are some of my picks..

Jimmy Eat World, Clarity, was good. It may not be emo, or it may be emo. Perhaps we should starting classifying bands by how good they are as that is as subjective and retarded as arguing about genres.

I got so battered last night that I had to send my clients around the corner so I could run behind a tree to be sick. Unfortunately I fell into a snow hole under a pine tree and the impact of falling into an eight foot deep trench made me vomit on myself-love Bawbsy....

Its pretty fucking stupid to fight about classifying bands or albums as emo or whatever, but you could call clarity emo without upsetting many people.

pipe_munky.. i listed to When Rhetoric Dies..and yeah i can see how you'd classify that song as emo. but in no way are they emo when the rest of their songs are full of screaming and fast beats, and their own record company classifies their music under the hardcore/punk/rock genre. The used, yeah i love em but they arent emo either..bright eyes, thursday.....nigga pleeeease

ur somewhat right. Emo was just that... the singers started very soft ..whispering even.. the songs were quite long and ended up with the frontman screaming and basically crying by the end of the song. and thats how it ended. This wa quite a few years back, and that kind of music really obviously didnt make it to the front scene. the genre of emo has changed a bit to where the singers arent as dramatic. However, bands like dashboard, one line drawing, brandtson, recess theory..pour alot of emotion into their music and in one line drawing the frontman does end up screaming and crying at the end of alot of his songs. Emo now isnt was it used to be. the genres changed. but its pretty easy to tell what is HARDCORE and what isnt. I used to co manage a club.. i saw many bands come through, and i know what the genres are. Dont even try to argue me with this.

i hate listening to everyone say EMO sucks well i think that bands like 2pac, tool, metallica, dave matthews, kiss,and weezer blow balls, emo is good chill music why you all have to hate on it

um - the only person that said that emo sucked was me. I was kidding. I listen prety much exclusivly to emo and hardcore... and all the shit inbetween. the fact taht all you guys are argueing about what is and what isn't emo is really fucked up. like who really cares? shit is way over named. and because emo and hardcore are related... there are a lot of bands that bridge that gap. There are also a lot of diferent kinds of emo. but yea what ever... shit is way over named and people care way too much.

ductapeboy- the only reason i care is that there is alot of music that is being labeled as emo and pushed by the entertainment industry because of the image of emo/punk kids. Its a minority image that is popular with youth of today beacuse its different from the mainstream. since more and more kids are turning away from maintstream they seek something alternative. and emo/punk is the next thing. Unfortunately that drags in all sorts of influences into the music and scene. some good, some bad, but the thing i dont like is that its become anything anyone wants it to be because there is emotion in the music.

of course we can label almost every type of music emotional. but the genre of 'emo' applies to a certain style of music..thats just waht it is.

oh man, coheed rocks so hard. soooo good... their lead singer has such a high voice, but he's really this big black guy with a huge fro. it's hilarious. their stuff is pretty heavy and not this whiny dashboard stuff that comes to mind when the term 'emo' is mentioned. the lyrics are awesome, but there's this one song that's just a bunch of unrelated sentences. pretty weird.
