i like emo. if anyone ever has the chance, read the lyrics to some thursday songs. geoff's is uber emo. what do you all consider emo?

 
at least emo is from the heart and the lryics don't suck like some punk and most emo refuse to sell out (even thou dashboard did)

yea, good choice, i used to like nofx a lot too, but i like reggae better now. all the emo kids i know think its all cool to be depressed and stuff, thats why i dont like them, or their music

Something about emo kids makes me want to grab some brass knuckles and start swinging. Further Seems Forever - was better when they were Strongarm (one of the best christian hardcore bands ever) And you cant say you like the lyrics cause there are true hardcore and rock bands that sing songs with the same kind of things.

Haha - I saw Vendetta Red supporting Fenix TX and RX Bandits. The dude got really pissed off that the crowd weren't moving about so he totally flipped out, climbed a cabinet and started swinging from the lighting rigs. It was hillarious.

I saw them again a few months back though supporting The Movielife and thought they were pretty decent. Some girl started heckling them and the singer gave the best comeback I've ever heard, it was awesome.

finally people who actually know what theyre talking about. yeah riverripper, strongarm was an incredible band, and i love solid state recs... cuz they also put out stretch arm strong. but hey fsf is still good...

eh i really like some emo, i think its good... copeland, fsf, thursday (which is screamo, but you say there is no difference.. although there is), and more.. but i forget for some reason, yeh. but im not an emo kid.

Emo is not a real word. It has way to broad a meaning.

Theres what the mainstream calls emo, All american rejects, weezer, ect... and then theres bands like Converge, they're a little harder. Emo means emotional, so if the music has any emotion its emo.

 
uh, emo started as a was to make fun of the band Fugazi. the name originated as a shortened version of 'Emotional Hardcore' Ian McKaye didnt care thats what people called it, so the name stuck. he was the singer/guitarist for Minor Threat before they broke up and he started Fugazi

We dont have an 'emo kid' problem in NZ never heard of it infact, but after reading this thread i think i have a friend that wa sover here from america a few months back that qualified as an 'emo Kid'

I gurarantee no 'emo' band would label itself as 'emo'. Emo is just a name that the media throw around for what they would have called 'idie-rock' or 'post-modern rock' a few years back.

 
expanding your tastes and cd collection

don't limit yourselves to music from a certain genre. sure, we've all agreed that emo is not and will not ever be a genre but branch out and see what else it out there. there's so much in the punk scene as well as outside of it. i find that i need different music for every mood. sure i like mineral, jets, sunny day real estate, and further, but that gets old if you listen to it all the time.

everyone needs hardcore metal bands in their cd line up. oh man, there are so many good bands to chose from right now. you can also explore into other places, such as ska, to make your cd collection a little more varied. also, stray away and stay away from the radio and mtv. much better bands exist and it's so much better when you discover them for yourself.

as for outside the punk scene, get yourself some hip-hop or jam band stuff. it's so chill and even if you've sworn off of it or hate it, there's always some group out there you're sure to like. it just takes some time to find. try out j5, aesop rock, swollen, etc. if all else fails, get yourself another sublime cd if you don't already own all of them. these guys are pretty much the universal constant. and if you don't like sublime, then i think you're pretty much beyond help. get therapy.

Brand New, taking back sunday and many more of the bands listed above are not emo just good music. Emo is a much deeper genre than most people realize and many bands today get lumped into the 'emo' lable. But with that said who care above genres and styles just listen to music that make you feel good.

I have to say i love jimmy eat world, taking back sunday, get up kids, and saves the day. i don't consider myself an emo kid, i enjoy the misic, i am myself.
