No, he's actually not. It's you stupid kids that think just because some white guy can rap about "real stuff" that he's the greatest rapper all of time. And all that "real stuff" that you think is so great is actually a bunch of whining and complaining about all of his problems. So in all honesty, Eminem is a gigantic bitch. Go outside your comfort zone and listen to better music which actually conveys a relatable message.

i like a lot of bands but that doesnt mean that they cant produce shitty songs. i cant stand a lot of musical genres, but that doesnt mean that they are not good artists or anything.

meh, he used to be great, but as most of the great artist they had to keep up with the times and satisfy the audience witch is now 11-14 or something.. i remember being a little kid listening to him on a small blue mp3 player and i loved it, but as stated before, recovery etc is garbage. respect to him nonetheless.
 
At this point though we're just arguing tastes.. I could tell you 20 rappers I think are better but if were going based on album sales like op states of course people say he's the best based on numbers. But I would say what do twelve year olds know about rap and show me what else is in their cd collection and I'll concede that those numbers could maybe be relevant in the argument. Still top 20 in history sure in my collection he doesn't make top 50

His new shit sounds a lot different then his old shit hence everyone calling it "crap" He puts out different shit all of the time. and like I said started this thread to get everyones opinions out by saying he's the greatest. I agree with mike-o in that you can't have 1 single greatest in something that progess's just like skiing but hes a fuckin boss and is definately my favourite and is up in the top 10.
 
With for sure. I think that modern popular hip-hop catered to 11-14 -year-olds is hurting from both overproduction and thoughts of grandeur and then the super-simplified stuff on the other end.

Peoples obsession with Wu Tang is ridiculous on this site, and if you actually think that every member of Wu Tang holds the top 10 spots (or 9 if you don't want to count Cappadonna) of the best rappers of all time then you're nuts. Do you honestly think U -God or Masta Killa is better than Biggie, Pac and Guru? The only person that deserves to be on a list like this is either GZA or Raekwon.
 
I'd love to see IT battle Em. I think Em would win with style and IT would win with content. There is no denying Em's ryme schemes, he has a flawless delivery and has changed how lyricists view a verse.

I have pretty much every biggie song and 2 pac song and a bunch of nas, don't get me wrong I love their raps but Eminems almost always got a better beat and a flow that can easily compete with them if not crush plus I loved the content of his old songs even his new shits decent though I know plenty of people don't because its so much different.
 
Did I ever say that area of Hip Hop is better than Eminem? No. Sure I listen to that stuff, but not habitually and I certainly don't let it cloud my judgement of good music. I just do not like Eminem and refuse to believe he's contributed anything genuine and "real" ,as you kids love to say, to Hip Hop.
 
well i'm no kid and the majority of the shit he raps about is scenarios so rediculous their obviously not real but just fuckin hilarious, and when he actually gets deep his songs are pretty dope I actually really liked recovery a lot 25 to life was super dope, cinderella man was killer plus it was dedicated to his best friend who died so it wasn't the same tone as his old stuff. Relapse he was coming down from so many drugs obviously it was going to be fucked. So yes he has contributed plenty to rap.
 
having every biggie and pac song doesnt mean you know shit though. eminems old shit was good. now its just mainstream because he got all caught up in the money and fame. there is so much more to hip hop than biggie and pac you have no idea. i have a whole itunes with like 3000+ 90s hip hop songs that just make me saw wow thats freaking good. here watch this video: DMC says all i need for my argument. this is DMC from Run-DMC. one of the greatest hip hop groups to ever live. if you dont agree with this, then theres no hope for you.
 
Have you listened to any of the Blueprint albums? The Black album? Kingdom Come? Great albums, and he never writes down anything. Repeats everything in his head and then records it. Tell me thats not impressive.
