I'm writing a 14 page term paper on Emerson and Thoreau and I don't think that I have quite enough information to make the required 14 pages. Does anyone know of any legit websites or books that could help me? Or if you happen to know either of the two, could you set up and interview for me? kthxbi.

Oh, and I guess we'll go with the usual "+karma to anyone that helps" but I guess that's sort of a given.

sucks i just did 2 essays on them today and transcendentalism is by far the most homo thing ever. dont do it and pleed your being a non-conformist with trans. beliefs in that its in your nature to ski more then write essays. (btw my teachers is a dope smokeing hippie my class mates openly talk about drugs with her)

I thought about pulling that idea, but my professor won't go for it. Anyways, I don't think that Transcendentalism is homo.

I just had to do a 5 page paper about how wilder's play our town had transcendental ideas by comparing it to emmerson and thoreau. SUCKS!

actually reading Thoreau's Walden and Civil Disobedience was a defining moment in my university career. if i remember correctly my paper was on Walden's effect on the arts and literature of 20th Century America (as a precursor to On the Road and artist like Lichtenstein and Warhol). Of course i was taking an arts degree.

Hmmm I wonder where my copy of Walden went…

I read Walden recently and had to write a paper about Thoreau's experience there. I hated the book and found Thoreau to be quite arrogant. I ended up writing basically a rant about how he was a rich, arrogant, hypocritical, domestic house cat. My teacher had a laugh but I failed it.

tell us what your thesis might be, and we can help you expand it.

i think it might be interesting if you bring it to today, what sort of response would Emerson/Thoreau elicit today-- would they be considered patriots? has their message been lost over time? What has changed in the US-- what would be required for an emersonian/thoreauvian throwback.

It's mostly about their friendship and influence on each other. I have found modern criticism on each; it tends to be negative towards each, while their contemporaries thought very highly of the two. Thanks for the suggestion, I'm looking at putting that in there somewhere.

what was so great about their works was that emerson's first piece was a call out to the writers of America saying what's wrong with you, where are your values, ect. ect. and Thoreau exemplified the exact person Emerson was looking for. I'm sure your memory is more capable of recalling where and what Emerson was saying, but you can look for those points and draw on how Thoreau actualy complemented them.

the only thing i know about these two is that my street name is thoreau ave which happens to be right off of emerson drive
