Just heard this afternoon the passing of Elliott Smith on the radio.... Supposedly died of one self-inflicted knife wound to the chest. He was 34. Anyone who's never had the opportunity to listen to his music should do so, he was a brilliant musician, that composed beautiful music. This sucks.... R.I.P. dude!

fuck man. thats rough. i am real glad i got to see him a few times before he passed. kind of off topic, but who else thinks suicide is real fucking selfish?

'He got fired? What did he do?'

'He jumped off of the roof again'

Yeah, this is too bad, he apparently killed himself last night and his girlfriend found him. It's too bad, he was a great musician.

holy shit that sucks. Ad undoubtedly he'll become really famous now. I think everyone knew that it would probably end up that way. I wish I could have seen him.

yeah, it was real weird. i was walking around town all day with Independance Day stuck in my head, then found out about it when i got home.

'He got fired? What did he do?'

i just heard some elliot smith yesterday for the first time in a while, and today i was in a dorm and one of my classmates came in screaming ELLIOT'S DEAD! it was weird.

sucks, I suppose he will become a Nick Drakeish type character.... Hopefully they'll release all the stuff he has completed..... Just a shame.... Why couldn't it have been Nickleback or Creed?

nickleback and creed both have familar voices but their music is generally really good and has good messages. It would be a shame to see any talented person leave the world in the that way or any person in general

the band he was in is not shit compared to his 'solo' composition. heatmiser and quasi.

'He got fired? What did he do?'

'He jumped off of the roof again'

Needle in the Hay is used in the attempted suicide scene in The Royal Tenebaums, it's an unbelievably well done scene, and the song goes perfect.

'It's better to burn out than to fade away'

Good song.... I was a big fan of his later stuff... Can't wait to hear the music he was working on before his death....my favorite is prolly 'Everything Reminds me of Her'... that is one fuckin pretty song!

Say Yes is my favorite song. or Independance day. hes going to get wicked popular now i bet. he had a thing on mtv news about him dying, thats crazy shit

'He got fired? What did he do?'

'He jumped off of the roof again'

wow, this is an old thread.....i just got the Tribute CD to Elliott From portland, its actually pretty good

that's a pretty savage way to go if you think about it...even still, today, I can't imagine having the will to stab myself in the chest. crazy

look up an album called "from here to oblivion"

its some solo piano arrangements of some elliot songs done by christopher oriley. hes also done a bunch of radiohead arrangments. theyre all amazingly good.

Sadly, many great artists seem to. Apparently Brad Delp's (lead singer of Boston) fairly recent death was a suicide as well.
