ya mellow isnt exactly the right word to describe it. spend a minute or two listening to the lyrics or learn about his life. you wont think of it the same.

but yes, he is an excellent excellent musician.one of my absolute all time favourites. so talented, rip.

I would definitely say his music is more meloncholy, and his lyrics will definitely give you a new view and feeling of depression nobody else can mimic. I have all his cds and would say I like Figure 8 is the best for sure.

yea that was a rumour, but his girlfriend did help put together his final album which elliott was in the process of making when he committed suicidie, From a Basement on the Hill.

and id rather refer to elliott as indie rock rather than emo. elliott actually dealth with the things he sang about, drug addiction, alcoholism, and etc. i don't know to many emo bands that can write a song about drugs and addiction having experienced first hand. he sang as if it was a warning to not follow in his footsteps. for example, my favourite song, ballad of big nothing covered what im talking about..

Thats really funny cuz i've been listin to a lot of Elliot Smith latley; Right now Bled White is my favorite song.

 
yea, but lets not glorify it as the death that all indie kids long for but don't have the guts to do it or they can't tell where to put the knife in their chest because the hair over their eye is messing up their hand eye coordination.
