Elegant universe. so dope.

since the beginning of the school year, i've been watching pure documentaries and shit. like history channel, animal planet, discovery channel, and national geographic. i've seen blue planet, planet earth, tons of those shows on the lost cities, human weapon; pretty much prime time television on those channels.

pbs hosts this other 3 part series, elegant universe. so far i've seen the first episode, Einstein's Dream. basically an hour presentation on how physicists are trying to find this one theory/equation that relates everything in the universe.

they've come across this theory called "string theory" which as far as i can understand, immensely tiny "strings" make up everything. its actually cooler than that last sentence just sounded, but if you can watch it, do it.

and if you're really high, the colors and everything described will probably blow you away.

the string theory is crazy. i love watching shows like this because its all completely mind blowing.

the science channel sometimes does these shows where all they do is show pictures and animations of the universe for an hour strait with like supermassive black holes and quasars and so much cool shit its like a huge trip makes you wanto smoke so bad

i watched the first episode and it was fucking amazing. it almost made sense to me. its funny too, i laughed when he tried teaching his dog physics and when i thought the old guys were playing c-lo. good show for sure i dont have time to watch the other 2 right now thought...

i understood most of the first one. i have class at 6, but i'm bouta watch episode 2: string theory, later. its gonna be sick.

fucking AMAZING. i remember watching that on pbs a few years ago while i was sick as fuck. and you think that's alot of shit to understand while you're well, it was so hard to comprehend while being that sick. i'm reading the guy's book "the fabric of the cosmos" right now actually. and while it's alot to swallow, he puts it in nice terms so that it's understandable. great book, i give it two thumbs up.

dope show, i've watched it like 3 times each episode, and right now im reading the book, which is equally if not more mind-blowing. i love these science/universe fucked up shows.

is there any way to watch it online? i downloaded them off my school's fileshare program, but i wanna send it to my friends and aim sucks a bit.

holy shit i thought i was the only person that ever read that book I'm thinking about writing a paper on it wow thats weird that a fellow nser is into that shit

Brian Greene does an amazing job in the book describing relativity. While he does dedicate most of it to String Theory, I loved the first part. His explanation of gravity is amazing.

Sad part is, some of that series is now outdated. They need to make another one like that, some of the crazy shit they've been discovering in the particle field will blow your mind.

to tell you the truth it isn't out-dated. The series is based for the beginner and there haven't been any drastic new discoveries since it first aired. Sure there have been man new developments but you would have to have a much deeper knowledge of physics then this show gives.

The book on the other hand may be a little outdated, nothing big though.

ya definitely another good one. Remember, these are just basic popular books that will make you think. After a while you can step up to some harder material by people like Richard Feynman, Roger Penrose, and many others.

People either lovephysics, these beginning books will tell you which side you are on.

I love those shows that make you think, There was a whole hour long show on Time, on the Science Channel

thats all i watch, discovery, and science channel

I dont get any channels that have shows like that, it sucks.

but I think iv been told of this befor... is the string theory something to do with everything being connected through the 11th dimension?

this is erally interesting stuff. its weird b/c i watched the first hour and now its like some really good tv show that i cant wait to watch more of. i cant wait till tomorrow to watch the rest. i was thinking of going into medicine but this prods me in a new direction.

Science is always being overwritten, and its inevitable that such radically new and unexplored theories will undergo drastic changes in their infancy. The series does introduce and speculate on string theory, but, in fact, some of what they mention is a bit out of favor among many theoretical physicists. That being said, the series is still absolutely amazing. Great for anyone looking to get started on understanding how the universe really works. I wish they could have make science that accessible and interesting in my high school.

I have the book sitting on my desk right now. I've only read through the parts about relativity and quantum mechanics so far, but he does a great job explaining those. I need to find time to read the rest of it, but I'm way too busy right now.

me too! i understood quite well the idea of special relativity and i'm psyched about that!

I took a couple seminars from Brian Greene last year. Hands down the best seminars I've ever been to.
