Eldora Question

Applying to CU Boulder and have some questions. Is eldora the closest place to ski around Boulder? And if it is, what is the park like? Ive tried to look at it but didnt get any pictures from google and the videos on youtube are shit. If anyone could help me out it'd be much appreciated. +K as well. Thanks

I go to CU. I have the epic local pass and the eldora pass. I'm not sure about the Eldora pass yet, since I've only been up once (they opened the friday before thanksgiving break, heard they might have a park next week), but I figure I can take the rtd bus there for free, and that way I can ski halfdays 3/5's of the week for free. Not too bad for the cost of their college pass. I wouldn't get an eldora pass over a vail resorts pass, but maybe itll make a nice addition, we'll see. Go buffs!

that kind of sucks that the closest place is not very good and breck and keystone are over an hour away. are there any other alternatives? is there any rails that you can hit around campus?

Eldora definitely doesn't have the park, terrain, or snowfall of some of the other resorts (i.e. breck, winter park, or vail), but I wouldn't discount it completely. I had a pass there freshman year and really enjoyed it.

A couple other points: First of all, like Barentine mentioned, the RTD bus there is a great bonus. If there is a day a week where you only have class in the AM or PM, you can go for a half day which really isn't an option for the other resorts. Also, although the features are limited and relatively small, I think the features are relatively well built and fun. It just depends how good you are: if you can throw grabbed nines etc, you will probably be bored, but if you can do 5, 7s etc you will be able to challenge yourself and progress. I would definitely suggest the vail resorts pass over the copper/WP pass because you will be able to find many more people to ski with. Finally, if the idea of a 2 hr drive to the mountains is too much and you don't have friends with places to stay at up there join the Ski Club, they have the occasional condo weekend and ski trip.

if you can find a way to get here just buy a keystone breck a basin pass. if you take loveland pass it shaves about 30 minutes off the time to keystone. I know of alot of people who go to CU and still come up every weekend to shred summit. I skied eldora once in like january and there was a very thin base and it was an ice rink.

Shitty park, so bad in fact you will never go there to ski the park.

Regardless I used to love going up there for a half day of skiing in the spring. Bring some buddies, brews, trees and just lap the shit out of it.

Enjoyable, but unchallenging skiing.

they technically had two parks last year. the main one is on a steep, shaded run that gets so icy/sketchy. the other is exposed and gets sun all day but for super basic boxes and a retarded half ass half-pipe it's pretty fun, i swear the smaller one has better lines for lapping than the big one.

i like eldo, last season was rad and i never experienced the crazy wind or ice that everyone talks about. the bus rules, you can put on headphones and sleep on the way up and down, plus it's $5 from basically anywhere RTD goes (denver to eldo is about 2 hours total).

Me and my family were going to go skiing there when we went to go visit boulder. We didnt ever bother getting out of the car.

Yeah when there's upslope storms Eldora gets pounded while everyone else is left out to dry. PM me if anyone with a pass wants to carpool.

smashed shit yesterday, one of the best pre-february powder days i've ever had. 15" total from that storm.

where do you live? on the way up?

I'm in Longmont, Powderhorn was pretty dope this morning. They had a couple rails set up at corona but not very good ones. Be interesting if Eldora gets pounded all season.

We should pressure Eldora to get a decent park. They'd do it if they though it would make them money.

You won't get anywhere trying to convince Eldora Management to improve their park. They want beginner families who will spend money in the lodge, rent equipment, get lessons, etc. The park crowd is too much of niche market for them to cater to.

yeah, i agree that eldora won't push for bettering their parks. the run that the main park goes up on is so shitty/shaded/icy. they supposedly had a pipe (where the baby park was last season) and there is a facebook page to bring it back but that doesn't mean anything.

i'll enjoy laps in their crappy parks in between bombing brians and moose glades, at least until i decide what my actual focus will be with skiing. lol
