I already said I messed up the artist I wasn't thinking and typed Raphael without thinking. Its actually called the Deposition of Christ, people call it the Entombment to help differentiate it from all the other Deposition paintings that exist. Wikipedia has it wrong by calling it the Entombment,
"Look to where the light is coming from. Can you see what direction the light is coming from?
The answer is Christ himself. It is Jesus Christ that is the source of light in this painting. From Him the light radiates outward to expose the other figures depicted in the painting."
"Its the spotlight lighting coming from the foreground that is landing on Christ and having the light radiate for of him."
"It is Jesus Christ that is the source of light in this painting."
They should. Its speculated now that they are just going to keep it as is, because it is far more famous now. It probably won't ever be able to be restored back to how it was, and its bringing in all this publicity now. It wasn't a very famous fresco to begin with so why not?
I said the same thing both times. I explained in greater detail in the second, but the light IS radiating of Christ and it is he that is providing the light in this painting. It is said that it is completely him because the spotlight lighting that illuminates him so he is radiating the light is from Heaven and is said to be caused BY HIM. He is what is illuminating all the people in the painting and it is because of him that there is light in the painting.
Let us all take a breath and enjoy the beautiful memes that have arisen from this horribly restored (and frankly absolutely hilarious) fresco. No need to get all argumentative over the light source in a painting.
first off i love that the picture used in the debated jesus-light painting is still the one with the restoration head...
And i say leave this painting as it is now. No one gave a shit about the old version to the point that the thing decayed to the point of barely existing. Then this woman shot it to a level of fame it would have never previously achieved otherwise. It's her art now and it's much more popular, leave it be.
The painting you are thinking of does fit the description you just stated. But the painting above is Caravaggio in which spotlight lighting is used which was pretty amazing for the time.
