El Nino Returns - warm/dry winter

Well this is shit.

"The NOAA's Climate Prediction Center said the El Nino probably will spur warmer-than-average temperatures this winter over western and central Canada and the western and northern United States.

It said El Nino also will cause wetter-than-average conditions in the U.S. Gulf Coast and Florida, and spark dry conditions in the Ohio valley, the Pacific Northwest..."

Maybe I shouldn't buy those pontoons.

There are so many variables here. It is certainly worth keeping an eye on things though.

We are still going to be ENSO neutral for the next 3 months...and there is only a 50% chance for ENSO positive by December.

Different stength El nino seasons do different things to different areas. For example if the El nino is a fairly weak one...which it seems like this one may be...you can potentially have more precipitation on the west coast. But if it strengthens to even a high weak nino and upwards into strong then indeed it will be warm and dry. However, Colorado, Montana and sometime Utah do get some significant benefit out of a strong el nino. So atleast somewhere with mountains no matter what the strength is there will be some higher than average precipitation in spots.

mann a winter here a while ago was amazing. we got the elnino, but it created wetter conditions, yet stayed under freezeng. It was pure bliss. soo mucchhh snnnooowww

yep two years ago for the PCNW. Basicaly no one opened until Christmas and one place never opened. Baker closed repeaditly along with Crystal. A little snow in december then rains mid december, then snow start of january for two weeks fallowed by heavy rains fallowed by one of the dryest febuarys ever. then a little in March and a lot first week of april but it was way to late.

that sounds exactly like our season in the mid atlantic last year. everywhere opened mid december with a decent snowfall, then january came, it got warm, and it poured. got a little mroe snow in february, but it was still warm overall. march came, mountains got ready to close, and a week or two before closing for all the local mountains, it got cold and winter came back, two months too late.

Really? i hear the east or at least maine is gunna be loaded? but thats just the alminac farmers guide

dude i hope this is come kind of sick joke.. because as far as i knew el nino happened like every 3 years or so.. and so it wasnt gonna happen again till next season.. if this winter is as bad as it was two years ago in the PNW i will shoot myself in the head with a freakin nail gun.. GAHHH

for sure.. those farmers are smarter than weather men.. (hopefully). maybe i should check out what they say about out west.

Two years ago was actually the best winter in a long time for us. Everything missed the PNW and hit us in Flagstaff. We had fresh snow from oct. to mid May.

yean 2004-2005 was the shittiest thing ever.. the east cost beat mt hood.. i mean thats like giving yourself flacitao ya know

Tell me about it. Hopefully we beat last year's snowfall of like 60 inches. I bet all year I never had more than 8 inches of snow on my lawn.

move to the east coast and well see how your opinion of a shitty winter changes. a good year for us would probably be the equivalent of 11 shots to your head with a nailgun.

FUCK, but someone said it, el nino is a shit load ofprecipitation too so it good go extremely well. and just wait till global warming takes complete charge and starts another ice age. year round skiing, of coarse we'll all be dead by then. fuck. FUCK

yo farmers almanac always says its gonna be like eight feet and what did we get last year on the east? shit...shit is the correct answer and the farmers almanac is too optimistic with their predictions so if its gonna be crap in the pacific nw then its gonna dump on the east

exactly but it would be nice to wake up and see snow stay on the groupd for over an hour before melting away, well in our area anyways

FUCK THAT!!

i say BC is gettin dumped on this winter so teh fuckin weather reports can eat my balls

I'd like to prove you wrong... it's been snowing for the last few hours in Whistler, peak to midmountain. You can see it from the valley, it's only like 800ft away.

Gotta break out the caps for this-

sTAY POSITIVE EVERYONE! IF EL NINO ISN'T STRONG, THE PNW WILL GET A TON OF SNOW. COLORADO WILL STILL GET LOTS OF SNOW, WE'LL ALL BE HAPPY OUT HERE. POSITIVE!!!! THINK SNOW, AND LOTS OF IT.

2 years ago in the PNW was dismal for sure, but who remembers march/april? 9 feet in like 2 weeks at whistler. coverage like i've never seen in my life in ridiculous, normally rocky places... those 2 months alone were almost worth it.

El Nino generally means a pretty sick season for those of us who ski in northern new mexico and southern colorado. I can't wait to huck my self into billows of soft powder. It's about time!

yeah NOAA and Farmers Almanac are saying the opposite.

i'd just like a large amount of snow deposited in the mountains so i can get off the internet and go ski.

ya i gotta agree with all these super positive hippy folk. if we are all positive about the snow it will come. a thought of snow a day will keep THE NINO at bay. so keep up the happy thoughts. YAY FOR SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
