El Camera Decision

I am faced with a decision. I very much want to get a POV camera, and my uncle works for REI, so he can get me a Contour GPS for $180, then I pay him back. Or, my friend is "sponsored" by GoPro on Hookit.com (formerly Sponsorhouse) and he gets 40% off of the 1080. Which amounts to $180 dollars. Same price as the Contour. So basically GoPro HD Hero vs. Contour GPS. I will be using the camera for mainly POV skiing, if that helps.

Sorry for the shitty thread, I am tired.

Personal preference. Contours are easy to use and fit to your head better but I like the image that gopros produce better. And the gopro comes with a waterproof housing.

yeah, gopros are a bit of a pain to get the hang of and they look goofy, on the other hand contours only have a handfull of mounting options while gopros can be mounted anyhow on anything ....

+the real magical thing about gopro are imho the array of spare parts and mounts that are available ....

when i first saw this, the bluetooth interface with smartphones just blew me away, so cool ! :)

I am lucky enough to have both.

I definately get alot more use outta my gopro than my contour. the gopro just has so many add-on's and mounts. pretty much i take my gopro everywhere now that i have the LCD backpack, it makes it like a mini camera. also the gopro has a tripod mount so if you ever wanted a to set it up somewhere and film you skiing or whatever it works for that and it's waterproof so.

IMO, if you're looking to do exclusively POV shots, then go with the Contour. It's much smaller and probably makes for a more practical camera to stick on your head. On the other hand, GoPros are pretty decent for following your friends around and are waterproof and bulletproof. They can be mounted to just about anything and have some really cool accessories. So if you're looking to do more than just POV, get the Gopro.
