Eileen Gu went to the Met Gala

Idk why the hell Matilde Gremaud doesn't get talked about more on here. She is definitely more skilled and equally as stylish as TBL and Olivia Asselin imo, all while hyping up other women just as much as anyone else. As far as cultural influence, she has more Instagram followers, movie parts, and podiums than the other two combined. She definitely is a contender for the face of women's freeskiing.

Of course all of them combined have barely even a drop in the bucket compared to Eileen Gu's influence, idk how anyone can contest that. I see people from high school following Gu who literally did not like skiing at all.

Also, why tf does NS care about which freestyle skier goes to an event that none of us know anything about except that it doesn't even have to do with skiing?

I did not know that actually so thank you for letting me know

I think people are just chapped she didn't choose to ski for Team USA even though that this isn't anything new. Gus Kenworthy was skiing for Team Britain because of his dual citizenship as well as a few other skiers. Not to mention, other countries actually fund their own olympic athletes to go for gold. US athletes have to put in a tremendous amount of work and rely on sponsorships to get to that level. It makes more sense to go ski for your "home" country or whatever if you have the option, and plus the chinese definitely want to body us in sports.

THIS!

Noboby would have given a damn if she would either be a lower level contender or at least competing for a more meaningless country.

But with her being a high profile athlete not only good for gold but with some glamour, many people got really triggered by her bringing it home particularly for the very country which many consider the good ole US to be currently at odds the most with. These folks just cry betrayal because of her 'impertinent, offensive, opportunistic and ungrateful' choice to represent China instead of their own glorious nation.

But shouldn't they just quit behaving like sore losers, get over it and move on? First and foremost it was her own individual talent, intelligence, drive and hard work which brought her success, she owes nothing to anyone.
