"Education of Style" leaked apparently?

While I do think you're trolling, it's sad that there are upcoming generations who will grow up believing and repeating this mantra, born into a world already filled with innumerable access points to the Internet and the ease of downloading nearly anything, for free or not. Yet, the entitlement will be continued through this spreading of 'free' information and 'free' entertainment.

While it would be hypocritical to say I've never dabbled with 'free' entertainment, you can make choices and some lines shouldn't be crossed as easily as others, especially for industries or people that support and engage in something that you like or love.

Draw the line somewhere.

Your logic is totally flawed. Aiming to depict another side of skiing beyond the rigid contest format doesn't = giving away the means to earn a living.

"Spreading the movie out to more people" in a positive way would be posting a purchase/download link on FB or twitter, or word of mouth. Just because Insired's goal was to change the way others view freeskiing and it's possibilities, they're somehow obligated to produce content (that cost thousands to produce) for free? How can they continue to promote other aspects of skiing outside the staus quo without revenue? How does that sustain itself? Where does Tanner or Iberg or anyone else profess to be altruistic and totally selfless? There's nothing wrong with having a profit motive, and wanting to provide a different approach/perspective as well as wanting to make a buck aren't mutually exclusive.

Not to mention, Inspired, over the last two years, has given away a ridiculous amount of high quality ski content through several webisodes and provided an avenue for talented skiers to gain some notoriety through non-traditional means. The B&E Show, Idahomies, Irie Indians, etc. were all FREE. There's nothing wrong with trying to offset costs by charging for a season long project. We're talking about fucking TEN DOLLARS!

If you spent a minute asking how you yourself would feel about something you invested an incredible amount of time, effort, and money to produce only to see it "stolen" and provided for free by someone not at all affiliated with the project, I don't think you'd stand idly by and say to yourself, "well, hey, more people are seeing it!"

Lastly, Iberg and Tanner have contributed so much to freeskiing already to the point that if anyone deserves some financial success in this "industry", it's those guys. Tanner's post itself is maybe a bit much, and not how I or maybe you would respond, but you're attacking his very right to exercise his ownership of the content, and that's bullshit.

well i said what i thought and i guess others dont see it the way i do. thats that. thank you for making a legitimate statement instead of just putting out a one line comment. the movie is good and they did something that people are hyped on thats all that really matters right.

Yeah, because Inspired Media is the definition of corporate greed, and embodies all that's wrong in the world. Fuck the MAN!

Inspired is made up of people. Hard working, driven, passionate people. You're right though, the power is in the people, as in it's in our power to vote with our wallets about those things which we think are valuable.

It's funny that you sling "upper middle class white kids" as an assault, when your attitude that entertainment should be free is rife with entitlement and selfish thinking...you know, things that typify upper middle class white kids.

In the music business, where even the best royalty deals add up to literally a few pennies per unit sold for the artist, and an overinflated bureaucracy ends up raking in the real dough, maybe your way of thinking makes a shred of sense. In which case, you could justify pirating an album by then going and seeing the artist live in concert and/or buying merchandise directly from the artist

But in a case like Inspired Media, who consistently puts out high quality content all season long literally for free—aimed at an incredibly small, not all that profit-rich, niche market at that— and then charges modestly for the culmination of all their hardwork, it makes exactly zero sense. If you yourself enjoyed EOS, and would like to see a sequel, you're directly acting against your own self-interest, as well as everyone else's.

And, if you're trolling, whatever, plenty of people think just like this.

I think that is, in the end, the most important thing, yes. But, in buying the movie, I made the conscious decision as a consumer to give my hard earned money to a company who's work I admire and would like to continue to enjoy in the future.

If we all felt that we're "owed" EOS and any other number of ski-related media, and took it for free, surely it's easy to see that it would become unsustainable for companies to continue to pour their modest resources into those projects.

I'm not trying to chastise you, or anyone else who has ever pirated anything ski related, but I honestly see this community as being better than that. We don't have wide, mass appeal. We rely on each other to produce, and in turn, consume. If we decide, monetarily, that what Inspired and others do isn't worth anything tangibly, we are digging our own graves.

It's undeniable that the internet and digitizing copyrighted material has forever and profoundly changed the very concept of "ownership", and it is to a large degree companies' responsibility to grow and adapt to the ever-changing environment by inventing new ways to remain profitable, or at the very least sustainable.

However, ultimately, it's OUR decision to make as to what we would like to spend our money on. For me, and I expect many others like me, spending ten bucks on EOS is as good as I'll ever feel about a purchasing decision; certainly better than I'd feel spending $10 at Walmart fort what I consider to be significantly less "worth it".

I don't know... to each their own, but I won't ever hesitate to spend money within the freeskiing community (within reason of course) that I love.

i bought the movie. im not saying its good that someone pirated it. my point was about the reaction from tanner about it being pirated. i think what theyre doing in skiing is sick. thats why i paid for it and watched it.

Anything I say on this subject would be hypocritical, and I think that's true for a lot of us.

Wasn't saying you didn't buy it, or that you condoned anything brother, and was really using your comment as a springboard to expand on why I feel the way I do.

sounds good to me. nothing like a good clean intelligent discussion. theyre few and far between on this site.

Wow... Just started watching it, wanted to turn off pretty much immediately, could only tolerate 10 minutes, skiing was good yeah, but that's it, editing was pretty poor, effects were horrific, and the filming wasn't great, poorly exposed and pretty boring cinematics, surprising.

Not saying that I don't agree with some of the editing criticisms, but something I didn't realize until the 2nd viewing was that I was actually watching the iphone version as there was an issue with the desktop download. Not saying what you said wasn't valid or even a result of what happened to me, but I know it was a common problem and that I had to click "GET" to download the full res desktop version which obviously looks a lot better. I noticed after viewing 1, "man...the footage is grainy and looks like it was shot on a handicam" haha. I was relieved to discover it was the iphone version.

I liked the movie, but even HD desktop looked like low quality. They should have had the clarity of shots that Retallack had.

Ah the internet..

Those complaining about the editing: that's understandable.. It was done by two stoned 20 year olds with no background in filmmaking. They're skiers, not producers. What else did you expect? lol

i didnt even notice i was watching the iphone version...i didnt even mind the du rags, crazy cutting, and effects. i was too busy appreciating the fact that 3/4 of the tricks in the movie were new and unique. honestly, you can count on two hands the number of "stock" tricks that happen

a movie that is THAT progressive (god i hate that word) put out by 3 people who have put so much into skiing to be the best doesnt deserve to be put online for free. 10 bucks is already a steal. i cant believe anyone who knows enough about skiing to appreciate this movie would have the lack of appreciation to put it online. dick move

Am I the only one that liked Phil's segment? Sure it felt like I was in the middle of an LSD trip, but IMO it really showcased his style and personality.

You still don't get the fact that because Tanner wants to spread his and Inspired's view on skiing, it doesn't mean that he will do it for free? It's incredible that this simple logic seems to elude you entirely. You go on about "clean, intelligent discussions", but you must realise that it is quite hard to have a discussion with someone who has entirely misunderstood the premises of the discussion. I'm not "hating" on you, but you do seem to have missed something in this debate.

Well I gotta pass this waiting time somehow, might as well do it by arguing irrelevant stuff on a ski site. Just like you.

i dont know the meaning of giving in. i didnt get to wear i am today by not spiting my fair share of people.

I will not hesitate to spend money on ski movies. Torrenting them is complete shit, support the companies that put out amazing movies and keep us eager to ski in the off season

lol kids like 12and he even posted about tanners call out to him, he seems stoked about it

good like in the future kid, rasta crews are bouta come after you

Seriously. I spend more than $10 at McDonalds every time I go there. How cheap can people be? $10 is absolute peanuts and downloading the movie in HD off iTunes takes a total of 15 minutes. I don't think it could be any easier.

It just sucks to have shit like this happen, as it kills the possibility of progression in our sport. Without the revenue, movies don't happen and we wouldn't get to see all the cool shit year after year.

i saw the whole thing on youtube...but im still probably gunna buy the movie, the movie is fucking sick and the company deserves the support
