Anyone into trance at all? I'm not really either but I have a chance to go to an Above & Beyond show on the east coast in a few weeks and I feel like it might be fun. Anyone been to a trance show, or specifically, an Above & Beyond show? Supposedly they;re pretty fun.
 
You're gonna get ripped apart in this thread, but yeah you should definitely go. Also, consider some saratonin level affecting recreational substances. But be responsible
 
I'm prepared for the hate haha, especially about trance music, which I'm not even really a fan of whatsoever but whatever.

But whatever, I heard it's a pretty crazy time at a trance show and I'd for sure be eating tons of moll.
 
Yes Above and Beyond are rad as fuck, definitely go. I went sober and it was amazing, my head woulda probably exploded had I been on something.

Hell yeah man, it looks like I'll be going that Wednesday the 22nd. Just so happens that we'll be coming down the east coast and through Boston from our round the country road trip from Tahoe at that time haha.

I'm just looking for a show where I am rolling face, completely immersed in the music/lights/good friends around me. So it sounds like this show should be right up my alley. I've been to quite a few EDM shows, but I'm stoked to check out trance live for the first time. I've heard nothing but rad things about Armin Van Buuren, Above and Beyond, etc....Think it'll sell out?
 
Above&Beyond are currently my favorite group in the scene. If you haven't checked out trance, I highly suggest downloading some of their weekly radio show episodes (Called Above&Beyond Group Therapy Radio). Episodes I'd suggest would be #017, #018, #002.

Armin Van Buuren also kills it, but he has a different "style" than above and beyond. His is more show/performance based/house-ish, but still awesome. He's going to be in Boston that following sunday or the sunday before the A&B show btw...
 
If you want to hear the best podcasts on the web check out moor music with andy moor episodes 4 and 7 each is like an hr long, those 2 episodes are the best ones but they are all goid

You can see the exact same thing happening in 'hip hop'. Bitch N*ggas like Waka Flocka Flame get to live in a 10 million dollar mansion and drive supercars because millions of middle class white kids actually support the cunt.

What happened to the days when music was made with real instruments?
 
No bud, kids like YOU suck. I'm not one of those kids and I do appreciate the music, but I feel as if the best possible way to fully immerse yourself in a trance concert would be by eating a bit of molly. I listen to EDM when I'm not fucked up on drugs and I've never been to a trance show, so I was simply asking for some reviews/feedback and added that I would most likely be taking some molly for the show because thats what I do at most concerts, EDM or not. I do however agree with you on the point about there being too many poser/fake douchebags in the scene now. I hate them just as much as the next person and they are the sole reason why I am starting to go to less and less EDM shows.
 
You should definitely go to Above and Beyond. No questions asked. They will make you love trance like no other.
 
I like the way music SOUNDS more than the knowledge that it was made by some sentimental bearded dude with an old guitar. That's why I can enjoy so many different types of music without having irrationally hate towards one genre like you do. If a song sounds good - it is good, because sounding good is the essence of music, and the path taken to creating a song is not
 
I agree to an extent. You are right in that anything can sound good, regardless of genre and does hold cultural value and weight.

Im arguing that the whole idea of EDM music is totally F.U.B.A.R. The people who say your molly is fake are right. 90% of the time your 'molly' is either a research chemical, bath salts, some kind of obsuce amphetamine or a mixture of all three.

I went to Knife Party last year with a test kit. I only tested 6 different types of 'molly' but they were all fake. This is why I hate the EDM scene and the retarded kids who are getting exploited so fucking easily. It would be funny if it wasnt so sad. At least with Hip-Hop most people were just smoking weed.....

People act like they deserve respect for their musical choices and their lives in general, but I just can't do it. You have people that will argue with you that the shit they've been doing is real even when it all tests fake. Hell a bunch of people in that scene have never even done real mdma.

I used to be a big fan euro trance and other stuff at one point. I feel like electronic music just took a turn for the worst. I don't really listen to it much any more but the main stuff just seems to have raped anything good out of the genres for mainstream consumption.

Kids that lack taste getting down on bad music. Not even a style problem but just shitty versions of a decent style. Also getting down on shitty fake knock offs of good party favors.

I just can't take the scene seriously anymore. I've seen far to many of these little candy raver kids with all their beads eating fake drugs and od'ing to skrillex.

Shit music and shit drugs for the young and naive = sweet

Both are very mainstream trance but they are for a reason. I would do anything to see them live. If you explore trance much deeper you can find a ton more amazing djs. Its sad to see trance dieing (in the us at least) but i hope it can pick up again!
 
I believe you are referring to the brostep scene. Trance has been around for longer then you have been alive. Go to a orchestra if your tryna get your nut off to some "real instruments."

You don't really have any idea about who I am so I'm not sure why you keep saying I'm "that guy."

I would never buy molly from some random person at a show, I always get it before hand from a trusted source and then take it periodically/responsibly throughout the night. I'm not some neon bro that goes to shows and flaunts the fact that I'm on drugs. Like I said, I despise those people and I think they are ruining the scene.

I shouldn't have phrased my appeal towards trance in that fashion though, I do periodically listen to trance (especially while skiing) and I do enjoy it. I was just never really super hard into it but I have always thought that the shows would be super fun, especially if you took a little bit of molly to enhance the experience.

No need to stereotype here.

As far as the second, putting chemicals in your body with out any idea what they are is a great idea. I mean it's cool to say yolo and just go have fun but it's not the best game plan.

Also another reason for caring is that as long as idiot will buy anything somebody sells them, the music scene in general will stay polluted with garbage.

its not like kids are dying or having seizures every night lol. dont exaggerate. and even if they were, them making that poor decision is hardly any different from hundreds of others that people make. im not trying to justify it, just trying to show why your 'caring' is pretty disproportionate to other things that are more serious. ive seen you make this same rant about 'fake drugs' tons of time and its starting to seem like you care more about sharing your impressive knowledge than any supposed danger.and its not like im buying pills off the hobo selling in the alley nextdoor. i would only ever grab from a tested and reliable source, that i know personally.

so im not trying to justify kids just taking whatever random pills they can find to get a quick high, thats obviously irresponsible. but the better message is to just be responsible. which is advice that is pretty wide-spanning

 
This is the most important part. Personally, I don't give a fuck how "mainstream" electronic music gets, I will still love it. But the fucking idiots that buy "mollies" that are 99% of the time fake as fuck are inadvertently ruining the scene. All they do is give money to the people that will keep selling fake drugs. It's a shitshow.
 
Bassnectar set at camp bisco last year I think their were 7 people in under an hour some that had were or had been seizing and some that were unconscious in the crowd.

Disproportionate to other things because music is a huge part of my life. If something was going on with skiing you'd probably care more about it than other things. If I'm not at the mountain/ it's not winter, I'm generally off at a show or festival somewhere. I'm watching people ingest fake shit all the time. There are plenty of awful things in the world but I care about this subject because I'm around it, it involves younger people, and it seems so easy to prevent.

My impressive knowledge? How much knowledge does it take to buy a dirt cheap test kit and stop buying real shit. Should just be common sense.

Doesn't have to be. I had this one girl at counter point that didn't need me to test her stuff because she "got it from a trusted friend". That means nothing. It's not like everyone that's selling it knows that it's whack. It comes from somebody up the line who get's sold it and then they sell it and so on. Knowing the people personally doesn't mean shit unless you're talking about actually testing it and not having tried it from them.

I don't think people are doing it because they're like fuck it I don't care I just wanna get fucked up. I think they're naive and simply believe that the molly that they get is actually molly. Some of them have researched mdma and check about the safety of it and all that, but that doesn't do much if they aren't even taking that drug.

Idk whatever, it's not like it's going to stop. As the EDM scene continues to grow here the problem will just get bigger/ linger on.

This thread can go back to getting fucked up and listening to trance now.
 
You should buy a test kit and see if that "tested and reliable source" really gives you molly. You might be shocked at what you are getting.

fuck yeah man, Above&Beyond will be amazing. I haven't seen them live but I've seen Armin Van Buuren (seeing him friday night in philly again actually) and I've seen quite a bunch of other similar guys. You'll love it and have an awesome time.

People love to hate on EDM of all genres but hey, since when do we give a fuck what they think? You'll have a blast
