Adobe Premiere is pretty much the "Prosumer" standard. Its very powerful. You can download a free trial and its not terribly difficult to figure out how to turn that free trial into a free product. There are tons of threads on here about how to do it. Google would also be a great resource. Bit torrent is another good way to find a "free" copy of it.

ill sell you sony vegas 4 for 25$ it works well, easy to use and beats the premeire version from that year in my opiniion
