Practice. Trial and error is critical. The more clips you can put on a timeline, rearrange, link up, and export, the better you'll be. There's so much to editing - music, order, transitions, color, cuts, audio, lighting, effects, and all the technology/codec/framerate/compression techniques - that like Matt said, you could never give instructions on how to do "step by step" good editing. Practice makes better, so that's what you should do.
