Watch good edits, and pay attention to the little things.
There's no one or two things that you can do that will make an edit good, every choice you make at the computer builds to make the edit.
A couple things to focus on:
The song. The song you choose is really important. It will set the mood/feel/vibe of the edit. Does it fit with the subject? Does it fit with the filming? Does it fit with the mood you're going for?
The song definitely sets up the pace of the edit, too. Pace is very important. This will determine how well the edit flows and how well it will keep the viewer engaged. A slow song may lend it self to longer cuts, and a faster song to faster cuts, etc. Work with the song to create the pace and flow. Repetition can be helpful or harmful to the edit, be mindful of this.
Transitions. This doesn't mean crossfading or fading to black every shot, but using the way you filmed, and the things above to move from shot to shot, and breaks between location, rider, scene, etc.

Practice. Trial and error is critical. The more clips you can put on a timeline, rearrange, link up, and export, the better you'll be. There's so much to editing - music, order, transitions, color, cuts, audio, lighting, effects, and all the technology/codec/framerate/compression techniques - that like Matt said, you could never give instructions on how to do "step by step" good editing. Practice makes better, so that's what you should do.
