Edit drought - Where the fuck are the good edits?

Ok is it just me or have there been way less good edits so far this season than normal. Is it cause of the olympics? Is the winter on the west coast actually that bad? Here on the east coast its been solid... Am I crazy?

Instagram

This is it, no one wants to take the time to put together a video longer than 1 min. You see tons of pros and ams doing this, they only post videos to instagram because thats where their friends look. Its a bummer, we've been trying to encourage more people to post edits and not just on their instagram, but its a tough ask since its just what people do now :(

Get your gang together and put something out. Bluebird for the extended future. Weekend of filming. Few late nights of drinking and editing. Plaster social media with clips from said edit on newschoolers with link.

I think the days of 50,000 views on here is said and gone, but worth a shot. And you're reputation and resources could spark a lil something. Or at least bring back a good vibe from years past. Shit I don't even ski anymore, I'd watch and be jealous.

I can't stand these ig edits theres just not enough time to really get into anything. Skiing needs the longer edits now more than ever, as the creativity aspect of short-form videos can only go so far before its all over social media and everyones already over it. I feel like the tease aspect could still work, just post a banger photo or a clip and put a link in the bio, and boom, post the longer edit just like we've always done. But I mean if people won't take the time to take 10 seconds to click on a bio link and then watch a 3 1/2 minute banger edit. Well then we're fucked.

No one is taking the time to make 3 and a half minute edits anymore. Why pour your heart and soul into an edit just to have it be viewed by a handful of people and the have half the feedback be “lol gay”.

Shorter attention spans across the globe and a content over saturation mess with this. Also social media lets companies directly see the influence their athletes reach through likes and what not, so why wouldn't you post a small edit on ig vs a longer one on a more niche platform

There is actually quite a large park scene at my tiny Ohio hill yet I am literally the only person who films stuff that isn't intended for IG lol

Idk, maybe it’s just the filmer in me that wants to make something that’s long and takes some work. It’s definitely satisfying once you make something that you’re proud of but that does come with underwhelming feedback for sure, I guess it just outweighs it. Guess I’m just obsessed with the idea that longer and higher quality production (not necessarily value, but ability) that I grew used to seeing on ns when ig was still photos and 15 second videos will make their return.

yo im saving all my shots for ns be ready

One thing for me is I watch about 99.9% of skiing on mobile and a lot of times videos on newschoolers don’t load right, like either they don’t play or they play for like 15 seconds and then stop working, I dont know of thats a problem only Im experiencing or what but it definitely makes it much harder to try to watch 3+ minute edits when i have to do it like 15 seconds at a time and it takes a half hour to get through

yeah tons of sick skiers these days don't post their shit to NS. Peter Christensen is definitely one that comes to mind. Also a only a few of the OVP edits got posted to NS last year but they were all sick

Idc if I have to stop watching skiing completely but I'm not using spyware that's made only for advertisers no matter what. Social media is the biggest scam in the world. Sucks being a nerd sometimes but Instagram, FB, Twitter, etc. is so gross to me.

It's sad that 98% of the kids I've approached with NS stickers only know it as an insta page.

Eheath you guys definetly need to start doing the edit tease with the real edit in bio thing, it's the sites best shot at getting social media whores such as myself...to actually watch longer edits.

Peep the videos in my profile ;) We have some fun stuff going of some subpar skiing but give it a shot! I'm with you though I'm missing some sick edits too, the list of bookmarks hasn't been growing lately.

We post clips and send people to the link in our bio on instagram all the time, what exactly do you mean?

What I mean is actual teasers, not like a couple clips that will already satisfy a kid enough to not see the need to click the link in the bio. What I was somewhat refering to was what SLVSH does on instagram, where you are not at all satisfied after watching the teaser trailer and absolutely need to watch the real edit in the bio to fully grasp it.

Kids attention spans are ridicoulously low and I am victim of this myself. Posting a couple clips and then saying "link in bio" doesnt work, but when I see a teaser of unfinished clips that leaves me wanting more I might have more incentive to click a link ya know?

I think there is still a place for the longer content though, SLVSH is killing it and making videos that are 7+ minutes long and getting 10,000 views every week, and they post nothing on social media that is longer than 20 seconds to get people to watch on their site.

Yeah this is what I'm talking about, they'll post only 20 seconds of pure tease and you'll be extremely motivated to watch the full vid cause of it.

Im making a mid season quick edit. Its so much work to shoot yourself in the big mountain; then edit it out and still have the energy to be creative with the edit.

After putting in the days behind the computer to work something half decent, you enjoy a 4 views. I just gave up on trying and just stick to shots as being reminders of stuff I have done.

At Bachelor we have had less than ideal conditions. Not many riders as should be. Thus fewer videos.

Peter is killing it, but like I said prior, Bachelor has not been really totally set up until just a while ago.

IDK if he is doing Insta G because I don't do that. I'm sure he will do a Real Lap with me, but when is another question.

Bummer. Climate change is killing the sport. Looking forward to the Real Lap!

Bachelor is not too bad now. Spring conditions. Been lots of icy days too. Riders don't like it all icy.

With some luck I may post up some Real Laps tonight. Early release Wednesday brings up the school kids.

Some of the Grommets are throwing down pretty hard. We will see.

Those two edits are sick af and a LOT of work went into them but the views are so low. That's pretty sad.

I think that the main reason is IG but I also expect that we will see more edits again when the olympic season is finally over!

Oh and btw not everything is bad, just wait for the X Games Real Ski Videos!

Nobody wants to pay for editing software when they can just splice some clips that they film on their phones anyway

Good edits.............well, I doing my best to provide some mediocre "edits" Ha ha.

Like I did a fun kid the other day and a sad few views. Fletcher Johnson. It's on my list here.

Seems hard to even get a comment anymore for my videos.
