If your edges are sharp and you hit a rail, it can actually crack alot easier as they will heat up more then a rounded edge would. I didn't detune my first pair of park skis and got a fair amount of edge cracks. I detuned my new ones and it helps alot with riding smoother. Not to mention you wont catch an edge as easily if they detuned.

I file the 6-8 inches underfoot almost completely round. I also take the sharpness out of the contact points of the ski to reduce edge catching on butters and such. this also allows you to initiate your turns without a jerky catching motion as you turn.
