Edges and Rails

Is it imperative to dull my edges if i plan on hitting some rails in the park? I still do alot of all mountain stuff so i dont want to limit myself there but then again i definitely dont want to catch an edge on a rail. Any thoughts??

You just don't want them to be razor sharp underfoot. Any shop guy worth his salt will know exactly what you want if you come in asking for a rail tune.

use specific skis for left and right foot. that way your inside edges get dull from rails but the outside edges stay sharp (for the most part). Then you can swap sides for carving up the ice. Trick i learnt from ski racing

thats the point. let your leading edge take the beating and keep your carving edges sharp. no point having 2 sets of edges that dont work on ice.

on both pairs of skis I've owned, i haven't dulled my edges and it's been perfectly fine. I never caught an edge or anything.

Ive done plenty of switch ups while having dedicated left and right skis. Only time I've had issues catching is on brand new skis. As long as your inside edges are dullish it wont be a problem. unless your doing rail tricks that use outer edges but i cant think of any unless your skiing is heavily inspired by Rollerblading. That being said im not advocated having your outside edges razor sharp.

this is what I did in past seasons, and it led to my leading edge completley coming out of my ski

You don't barely use your edge under foot when carving and what not, you use the edge towards the tip and tail

I sharpen my edges up here, and detune under foot
