New season, new thread.

To start things off, looks like what used to be Tommy Pic is getting turned into a tubing hill. Kinda sucks, since it was fun to head over there after a ton of snow and blast down through the shrubs.

That sucks, really. That was such a sick run with some decent snowfall. I got a corner of my seasons pass cut last year for doing it haha.

also, JIBS !!

Im stuck at mount pakenham this year, its 10 minutes from my house so i will at least be skiing five days a week but still. Parents gave up on the long drive this year

still should try to make it for some 2 for 1 nights every so often. have a feeling it's going to be a good season

So I have never been to Edelweiss in my life and I will be in Ottawa for december + reading week. Would it be worth getting a pass? Considering I would probably go skiing at least 14 times over the 5 weeks, or should I look at another hill? This is in terms of not only park but terrain as well. I usually ski fortune- the park doesn't seem as nice but I do like their tree skiing. Just looking for comparisons really. Also busy vs. non busy plays a factor.

the park is for sure better. hands down. but they seem to take a little longer getting their jump line set up. they're jump line is by far the best anywhere close to Ottawa though. and with the looks of the new rails, them and Cascades will be tops for rails.

For anything outside park, Edelweiss is comparable to the other hills around. not as good as Fortune for terrain I find, but pretty average for the area (excluding St. Marie)

when there's good snow Edel still has its fun places to go find a few fresh turns. But Fortune still wins for this.

I'd compare the ticket pass prices for a decision.

or between Fortune and Edel you can get 2 for 1's 3 or 4 days a week.

according to their facebook there is much chance that they open this weekend if the temperature stay low!

hm. could swear I recognized that pine tree standing alone from the top of Tommy. well that's good. now if only we'd get enough snow for them to reopen the runs over on that side. shotgun was great fun.

their opening day:

looks like they'll be open again Thursday. This year I'm working Friday during the day. always down for some laps.

whats on the right? same setup this weekend?

Setup today was s-rail, c-rail, pvc pipe, little up rail, and a 'jump'. Probably stay the same till they start building where they normally do.

They also have that other section with the small battleship boxthen an a frame or a up box to downward curve (does that thing have an actual name to it?)

followed by a down rail or dfd

and finally a small ass jump.

little update. got a lot of snow (obviously), heavy and wet so there's going to be great base for next snowfall.

didn't really go through the park today, but what I remember there was a small battleship box, down box with curved lip, rainbow box, flat rail, flat down box, small jump, and I think maybe another couple features

yup. there now. open tonight and this weekend. dunno about after that.

also, big park build is under way on the top section of Yoddler. They have a few features lying around and are almost done shaping the first step-up. looked around 30 feet from lip to knuckle, so larger than previous years for the first jump. also looks like it'll be super smooth. pretty much like the main jump last year.

I hear ya my friend. I was there all of Saturday, I'm still sore. Didn't realize it on the day of, maybe the stoke was just too high

looks like the top half will be open this weekend. the jump at the bottom of the first pitch is about as big as I've seen it. Guessing 30-35 feet from lip to knuckle. easily big as the main jump was last year. a smaller jump up above it like usual, a bunch of rails/boxes, and a scary looking feature that's that huge pyramid thing pointed towards a takeoff.

was told the whole jump line will be open tomorrow, and most of the remaining features will be put in. Apparently the main step-up will be 45-50 feet. so pretty damn large. bit of a late opening since it's already February, but judging but what I saw it looks like it'll be one of their best setups ever with some of the largest features. was being described a large cannon-rail too with that machete rail that they were going to put in. hopefully I understood that right. sounds sick.

How's the park looking? Thinking about heading up tomorrow, but don't want to make the trip if everything is run-down due to the rain/warm weather...

Went yesterday and the park's still looking good! It was slushy and kinda slow yesterday but I still made the landings on all the jumps for the most part...

yeah WTF. went from 18/20 trails open to 0 overnight? i don't think so. hardcore lame decision there.

The last day was so dope, people were clearing the jumps easily and the park was still great . Wish I could ride it again

there might still be geeks love tweeks and pond skim event acording to their facebook page but its not guarantied, at last there is a bit of hope that we go back there but idk if they would have a park set up or anything
