It's over. I sold it to him, end of discussion. He offered me $350 and I took it. It's not like I was like hey give me 350 or your not getting the jacket. And you'd be debating it too if you had credit card bills, loans, and tuition to pay. This is money I need. I'm not being greedy. You've got to pay this bills somehow.

I know. I was going to but it says right on the site that reserves discourage bidding and that people who don't set reserves usually actually get more for their item. I didn't really expect to get so little for tha jacket. I sold a pair of year old tele skis without bindings that retail at 550 for 375. I've always had good luck getting a lot for stuff but not this time.

i can put the coat up for no reserve and let people bid and if its not high enough say im not doing it for that cheap.

Yeah it's a busines transaction just like any other. If you were selling your car and someone offered you $5,000 for it and you wanted at least $6,000 you tell them no and wait for someone else to offer you more. It's the same thing. Just because it's on ebay doesn't mean I have to get fucked over. If I don't think the offered price is appropriate to the product then I can revoke my offer to sell at anytime and I would expect some one else to do the same to me.

Its not like that, an Ebay auction is a contractual obligation to sell that item at that price. If the guy wanted, he could go to Ebay and threaten them and they would force you to either sell the coat at that price or suspend your account.

Sorry, folks, but Andy's right on this one. It isn't an offer/accept contract system, as soon as that jacket goes on ebay, it's no longer your property. It's ebay's property. It becomes your property once again if a reserve is not met, but if not, it never is again. You enter into a legally binding agreement to accept whatever the highest bid is the moment you agree to sell something on that site, and you are no longer the negotiating party; the negotiations (between you and ebay, not you and the buyer; there ARE no negotiations between you and the buyer) are over. It is, technically, illegal to do what you just did. You got lucky, he was either a nive guy, really desperate, or uninformed as to his options... because he could have outright forced you to give him that jacket.

Yeah, He could have left me some bad feedback or some shit like that but I could give a fuck. As far as being able to enforce the transaction it don't think he'd go that far over a $450 coat. We ive in different states so the laws vary form state to state. And when you say he could have forced me to sell the coat, how so. He couldn't do shit unless he wanted to come after me legaly. Ebay couldn't really do anything either. I live 1,000 mile from the guy. THe most he could do was bitch a moan to ebay who could, ohh no cancel my account. I have another bank account and could easily make another account and be up and selling again in a matter of minutes. It's all based on the honor system which when it comes down to it isn't shit.

dloc u dont get it do you...i would rather see my auction start at 350 if thats what i want for the coat and see no one bid on it and get my coat back (and i would be out 1.50 for posting it on ebay) then see it go for 250 because i was afraid no one would bid on it and then im out a coat and 100 bones...

the only thing that is nice about Reserves, is that sometimes you will get a lot of bids going and get newbs wanting to win. I just sold some old snowblade buzz 90's for 130 bucks. i bought them for 100 bucks on sale in 99. You never know how people are going to react towards the end of the auction.
