Ebay question?

I posted this jacket on Ebay, it was like a $450 jacket brand new, still in the packaging, and I only got $250 for it so I don't want to sell it to the guy. Is there anything that can happen other than getting some negative feedback. Also would I be a total dick for not selling it to him?

yea man you have to put a minimum price...you have two options...1.sell it to him, 2. dont sell it and get bad feedback, but this works sometimes..offer him $20 or so to not give bad feedback, thats what i did when i messed up an auction.

if you have read any of the documentation when you signed up you'd know that an ebay say is a legal contract. At the very least you'll get negative feedback, most likely he'll complain to ebay and you'll get the boot. But he legally bought the jacket so he can take you to court and you dont have a leg to stand on. Not only do you lose the coat but you also pay for all the legal costs. SO basically dont be a dick and send him his jacket...and you've learned your lesson the hard way.

You don't realize how screwed I got on this thing. It is a brand new Bonfire Eclipse 3L Gore-tex XCR. One of the nicest jacket you can buy and it's still in the wrapping. I only got $250 for it which you wouldn't even be able to buy it for next fall.

I've always done well selling stuff on Ebay and gotten more thn I expected but this just sucked. I was hoping to get at least $350 for it.

Okay I'm sending it to him. I know I should have set a reserve but it says on the site that it discourages bidding. But I did get another $50 out of him so I don't feel so bad about it.

setting a reserve is dumb, but you could have put a higher minimum price. you're really lucky he gave you $50 extra actually, i wouldn't

Okay now I'm back to thinking I don't want to sell it to him. Think about it what's he going to do. The same thing happened to me in the fall when I bought text books form ebay. I never got them but it was no sweat off my back. I got them a week later from a different seller at pretty much the same price. I've been a good moral person most of my life why shouldn't I take this oppurtunity to do something for me and be a little greedy. This guys getting a rediculus deal and he knows it. When should I give him a good deal just because I feel morally obligated to.

Ok. Basics of ebay. Is he going to come to your door and break your legs? No. Are suits going to show up at your door asking for money? No.

I know that their policy with NPBs (non-paying bidders), It is three strikes, and then your account is suspended indefinitely. I'm not sure what it is for non-selling sellers or whatever you want to call it, but I would imagine it is similar. As long as you dont take his money, and dont sell it to him, all you should be in for is negative feedback and a warning about putting shit up and not selling it.

Kick ass bro thanks for the encouragment. I figure it's happened to me twice, some one else deserves the shit end of the stick this time. I'm not too worried about the feedback thing either. I've only sold on ther a few times, and can't I just make another account. If they use IP numbers to track the account I can use another computer.

To my knowledge, they do not use IP numbers to track accounts. It is solely by address/cc/bank account info. So yea, you are pretty much just going to get a slap on the wrist.

Congratulations on being a jackass. Ebay works partly due to an 'honour system' whereby bidders honour their winning bids, and sellers honour the winning bid, no matter how low it is. You roll the dice every time you sell something on Ebay. Win or lose, you have to deal with the consequences. You lost this time, so deal with it and sell him the jacket.

I dunno, I really want to say that he shoudl sell the jacket, and he should. But I can definitely understand how you might want to not sell it, cause money is money, and I know how much it sucks to make mistakes like that. I think you should do whatever you feel is right. At the end of the day, once you've made your decision you will know if it feels right.

I just don't feel that bad about it because the same thing has happened to me twice. I mean what can you expect from some stranger who lives half way across the country. To hi mit's really not loss. He got the jacket for almost half price and it's barnd new and probably won't sell for the price he got til like May. But to me it's a huge loss. I was counting on this income actually to pay for my credit card bill for my season pass. Now without that money I can only pay for part of it and I'll get charged interest.

d-loc is right. From by Blaw class I remember that you always have the right to revoke an offer regardless of what ebay says.

But the end result was he called me and after some discussion and him getting pissed off he offered to pay me $350 for it, so I accepted and I just sent it to him 15 minutes ago. Hah sucker. What can I say I'm a greedy business person. But you know what they say, nice guys finish last.
