hey ya'll, my friend just got accepted into the vancouver film school and is movin out there in july, and i might be traveling with him, so if anyone from the area can explain ANYthing about vancouver to me thatd be appreciated haha

like, wheres good place to live in relation to the school if u know about it, what are the places i definately SHOULDNT live, or any general knowledge or other websites i can check out that would be me out

thanks

I believe the film school is downtown, so the best place to live would be yaletown or the west end, no further east than Cambie, but it's VERY expensive. On the westside, Kitsilano is really wicked, close to everything (including downtown), expensive as hell too. For cheaper and still nice and multicultural I would look at commercial drive, a little further away but a pretty central area with lots to do.

Don't live in Burnaby if you're going to VFS. Driving down means having to deal with parking ($130ish/month if you get a spot, or $10/day minimum, for, say 20 days a month, or $200/month), and taking the bus blows. The skytrain SEEMS like a good idea, until you realize that it takes you as long as driving and smells like urine.

Living downtown requires sacks of money, but it's the most efficient way of doing Vancouver. Or Kits. Either way, sacks of money are your friend.

You could find somewhere decent in the West End that would work out OK and be cheaper than most downtown places.

The West End is the cheaper of the places around downtown. But still expect to pay upwards of a grand per month. Burnaby really isn't that bad. I have friends who live in Burnaby (around Hastings and Willingdon) and they take the bus to work downtown every day. North Van could also work. Around lonsdale so you could take the Sea Bus downtown. Besides that I would agree with what has been said. You don't want to live east of Cambie. Best of luck finding something, roommates help cut down the cost.

probably quicker to take a skytrain from burnaby than to get a bus on burrard from kits. those 44s or whatever come like twice an hour.

I live in Downtown Vancouver.

-Expensive.

That's all I can think of.

But downtown is nice, theres beaches and stuff, nice in July.

Stay in Yaletown or Westend, I live in Westend. Kitsilano is good too.

DON'T GO TO DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE!!!!

That's the last place you want to go in Vancouver, if ever.

Open drug deals on the street, stoners, etc. LMAO.

Funny as hell though.

Remember the next two words - "ROBSON STREET". Probably the biggest group of stores in Vancouver (downtown)... lol.

Vancouver is a good place to explore, Burnaby is good to explore too. Especially Metropolis @ MetroTown.

Don't go to Surrey, unless you need to. Richmond is pretty full of Chinese people.

Living on Commercial is pretty dope, cheaper than downtown, and would be pretty easy access to FVS. But it's a little sketchy in some spots (around Broadway for one), and can get a little, I dunno, kinda weird sometimes. Nice though, good restaurants and little bars, fun scene, easy access to groceries and shit without having to drive or take the bus, close to a lot of other things..yeah..not bad.

The westend is probably where you wanna end up if you can find a decent place there.

ahh awesome guys thanks alot for the info, the sacks of money might get a little difficult so gonna have to go somewhere cheap but ill look into everything ya'll said so far, any more info keep on comin, thanks!
